Ok, so for those that don't know, im in the process of swapping an 01 cobra engine and transmission into my 97 gt convertible. The motor is in the car and everything is hooked up. My problem is that it won't start. It won't even turn over with the key. My first instinct was that the starter thats on the motor is bad. Well, I jumped the starter and it works. So I thought maybe the solenoid is bad. Well I fed the solenoid power through a plug next to the battery and its working. But with the key I get nothing. The instrument cluster lights up and the radio works, but im getting nothing to the starter or the solenoid. Any Ideas? Everything worked fine on the car before the swap. It is throwing a check engine light for P1000 but from what I can find it doesn't seem to matter. Any help is appreciated.

its been flashed with a tune for the cobra, shouldn't be an issue. Thinking it may be a bad clutch safety switch.

I'm no expert on the 96+ cars, but isn't there something to do with the PATS system with the key sending a signal to the ECM to
start the car? That's my only thought off the top of my head...

When you turn the key on to start it does the theft light on the cluster flash? If it does then its a pats key problem. Did you change over to the cobra white gauge cluster?? If you did than it is the pats key. the keys need to be programed to the cluster or the pcm depending on the year. You might be able to cheat the system by swaping the key cyl from the cobra to your gt so the keys go with the correct cluster or pcm. Let me know I would love to help you figure it out.

No, it only flashes when the door is open. If i close the door the theft light goes out. Im using the stock gt pcm and cluster. All that was changed is the motor and tranny, I kept the gt wiring harness and coil packs. I spliced the injector plugs from the cobra onto the gt harness because they were different, but thats it.

If it was a pats key problem the theft light would flash fast. Do you have any aftermarket alarms or anything? when you turn the key on can you hear the fuel pump come on for 2-4 sec?

no the car doesn't have any aftermarket alarms. when I turn the key the fuel pump primes just like it should. Im taking it to my local tuner this weekend, maybe by next week he can figure it out.

Another thing I thought of to check is some years had 2 starter solenoids. one on the side of the engine compartment and one on the starter. I would check for power at the small red/w wire to the solenoids with the key in the crank position. If you have power there then you know its from that point on, and if you don't have power there then its from there back to the key somewere.
