Well I need new back tires and I'm looking for a good sticky tire for the street/track. I was thinking about the Sumitomo High Performance HTR Z II Tire - 245/45-17 or the NITTO Extreme Performance NT555 Tire - 245/45-17. I live in florida, so snow and sleet really isn't a big issue when considering tires. I just don't know which one to get. They're both on sale @ american muscle right now. The HTR Z II's are $102 and the Nittos are $130.

the sumitomo is NOT a sticky tire. If those are the only two tires you are considering, then I'd take the Nitto...
If you DO choose the nitto... make sure its the 555R, not just the 555 (huge difference there)

You should look into ditching the tribars for a set of 17x9 wheels... and getting some 275/40/17 BFG drags or Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials.

not only are they not sticky they don't last long either. I got some rikken(SP?) last time to replace my sumosuckos and swore I would never buy them again...

Sumitomo aren't going to be sticky at all and I hated the 555's I had. 555R's on the other hand I really liked, I'd highly suggest those.

I'd like to get mickeys, but like you said I don't think they'd fit on the tribars. I'm kinda tight on money right after putting everything together, so rims might have to wait till fall. I'm thinking about these http://www.americanmuscle.com/nitto-nt555r-275-40-17.html . Is there anything better I should be looking at in that price range?

They dryrotted very quickly, as did my friend's. They were only good for about a year and then they just lost all grip they had. I just wouldn't buy them again.

Like Adder said. Look into the local CL. You can probably find a mint set of OEM 03/04 Cobra Rims and tires for the cost of a set of tires.

because that has to do with tires.

UmadBro?

OP, dont go wider than 255/45/17 on a 17x8.
If you want a 275/40/17, get some 17x9 wheels.

Yep exactly Ford does all the research for a reason and there is a reason they didn't put anything larger then a 255/45 on the 94-95 Cobra's. Same with the 17x9 03/04 cobra wheels with a 275/40

Here is a picture of 255/45 on 01 polished cobra's

I have the Nitto 555's with 245 up front and 275 in the rear on the stock 17's. They bulge a little but nothing crazy, I wouldn't go wider than 275 on 17x8 IMO. And except for the feathering due to my "responsible cornering" they are an excellent tire!

What is it in particular that makes you think they would be a GOOD tire? Also, you need to be a bit more specific about what you what out of the tires.

A tire for the track and street is the definition of a drag radial. Nitto NT05R, BFG drag radial, Toyo, etc. They all make drag radials. If those are too racey for you, then an extreme performance tire is the next step down. Nitto NT05, Bridgestone RE-11, etc. Take a look at those and report back and tell us what you think.

They have done a great job on my car. They handle wet roads very well. My car's a 100% street car so no track times.
