I have a 98 gt with the p.i. swap, just got it done today. went to start it and all the oil leaked out in about 10sec. from somwhere on the back of the engine. Anybody know what is back there that could cause this?

As I remember reading on the swap, there is a plug that must be installed on the back (facing the firewall) of the drivers side (left) head or oil spillage will ensue. Even thought the head castings can be swapped side-to-side, the plug must be installed on the left head. Remove it from the old nPI head and transfer it to the new one. Or......

This is covered in the "Great New PI headswap write up" at the top of this page. It states there that ANY plugs in the old nPI heads should be transfered to the PI's...... I'm really just thinkin' you just installed your PI heads opposite from where they were on the previous PI block and the plug you need is actually in the front of the head you installed on the pass. side. (right) I know.... you don't want to hear this.

Yea, it's tight back there! Don't forget the teflon tape on the threads!

id drop the motor mounts... 3 bolts is much easier than like, 3494 valve cover bolts and then the head bolts (that youll need new ones if you take out) and head gaskets (youll need new ones.)

just drop the motor mounts, lower the motor, see if that works...

np. its not as bad as it sounds...

you will need:

jack
piece of wood
wrench
TQ wrench
chaulk pencil

jack up wood and place under the oil pan (just so they are touching)
chalk around the nuts on teh bottom of the motor mounts (so you can re-set them in the same place)
remove mid-pipe exhaust.
undo teh motor mount nuts
jack up the motor until your tranny harness is nearly toughing the frame
unbolt the rest of the motor mounts
remove mounts
inspect for damage
apply bushing lube if in good condition and ready to use again
clean metal surfaces with a wet rag
lower motor until exhaust manifolds are nearly touching frame/k member
place jack under the transmission and crank pulley
get out from under the car and install your oil plug thingys
TQ to specs... maybe even the german spec of "goo-n-tight"
jack up motor untill tranny harness is almost touching frame
reinstall motor mounts
lower motor untill lined up with the chalk marks again
install nuts
inspect tranny harness for damage
lower jack and remove wood
inspect oil pan for damamge. damge taht occures to oil pan may prevent oil from entering pick-up or may press pick up out of alignment
rub off as much excess oil as possible
replace ehxuast
remove jack stands
lower car
drive away

It would amost be worth boring a hole in the firewall from the interior side and installing the plug from there. Then plug the hole. Your gonna be pissed when you see the small size of this oil gallery plug....

I don't know about the new Ford parts but, this oil gallery plug issue only pertains to the head placed on the left bank (pass. side) head. Seriously though, if it were me, I would sure as hell look into boring a strategically located hole in the firewall and plug it afterwards.

thats a good idea GT, but wouldnt you have to remove the dash? removing the dash is amost as bad as taking out the motor. lol!

No. Up in from underneath the dash. Could be a tight area to work but, could likely be done. Would most likely take two people. Would have to somehow mark or dent the firewall behind the plug area and search it out from inside. I don't know. Just throwing ideas out there.

Would hate to disassemble the left bank again!
