First off, this has been the most irritating topic to find accurate answers for! All I've been able to find are PI head/cams/intake swaps wherever I search! :BangHead:

I have a Windsor (01) motor I'm going to swap into my '96 and I need a specific list of what needs to be swapped over from the 96 onto the 01. Simple question, yes, but the results I have found have led me to believe I am missing something which is turning this "easy" swap into a headache. :angry4:

The only repetitive parts I've seen are the fuel rails, and timing chain cover need to be swapped over. And randomly, I'd read the oil pan also needs to be swapped over to the 01, no idea why. Some people make it sound like there's more work involved in swapping a Windsor than a Romeo. :violent1:

Can someone who has done this swap with a WINDSOR motor please chime in!

coil packs need to be swapped over. drill and tap your coolant crossover for your second coolant sensor.

oil pan will be fine, unless maybe its out of a FWD mercury or something??? but my 2004 cobra oil pan was the same as my 1996 GT oil pan.

thats all the input i can provide. :)

Windsors use a few different things, best bet would be when you take out the old motor try and hook your electrical harness up and see what matches and what doesnt. after that swap and check physical stuff, if anything the reason youd have to swap the oil pan woudl be beacuse of the windsor rear main seal is differnt (which it is)

I'm kind if doing the same thing you are. I bought an 01 PI engine out of a bullitt. The easiest thing i could decide to do was just swap the heads cam and intake over to the NPI block. You'll get a little bump in compression which should help over a stock PI.

I don't remember anything different from swapping windsor and romeo engines. People said to swap the oil pans because the 96 has a low oil sensor and the other does not so if you want to retain that function keep the 96 pan. Everything else that needs to be swapped was covered above.
