Help please. My speedo stopped.

My speedo stopped today and I'm not sure whether its my speed cal or my actual instrument cluster. My question is, if it is my instrument cluster, will any 96-97 GT cluster fit? If not, what do I need to do to get my speedo working again?

check your speedo gear. and speedcal first. start with the easy shit before you pull your dash apart.

Mine just did the samething a few weeks back. Is your check engine light on? Mine threw a code and turned out to be a bad speed sensor.

Speed sensor,Gears,the wire/cable behind the cluster a fuse :dunno:

Got it fixed. My VSS came unplugged. And yes you're right, when my speedo stopped my check engine light came on. My question now is: My odometer hasn't worked for a couple of years, but I want it to work. How can I fix this? Is there a company other than ford that offers replacement instrument clusters? Or can I fix this problem without replacing the hole instrument cluster? I almost know for a fact that there is a gear inside the cluster that either broke or the teeth got stripped off of it. Can anyone help me?

Just fixed mine a few months back. Its real easy, 5.0Resto in Hewitt has them in stock.

Yes they do have speedometer gears but they don't have odometer gears. That's what was stripped out in my instrument cluster.

speedcal adjust the speedometer when gears are changed.as for example when you from stock gears to 4.10

I'm not talking about speedo gears. ODOMETER GEARS They're different. And I live next door to latemodel restoration.

It seems like everyone is confused but me. I fixed my speedometer. All that happened is that it became unplugged at the VSS. But my ODOMETER hasn't been working for the last 2 years. Yesterday, thanks to the link above, I was able to order the parts necessary to fix my ODOMETER.
