i found a 97 cobra on autotrader and this was the message i got from the guy, sounds too good to be true. he sent me the vin and it came back with the correct year and model. tell me what you think? too good to be true or my lucky day?

"Hi,
I still have the 1997 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra for sale.It has a clean title, very well maintained.I'm asking $2950 for it,not negotiable.I have to sell this car as fast as I can because in three weeks I'll be in Afghanistan and I think I'll stay there for a while, that's why I'm selling it so cheap.Currently I'm in a military base in Florida and the car is here with me.I can ship for free within US if you want to buy it.Let me know what you decide ASAP.The pics speak for themselves,You'll love the car,I can guarantee you that!"

anyone know a carfax type site that will give me the owner's name and location? i don't mind paying a few bucks to not get scammed.

probably a scam,i've gotten a couple emails back in that same type of format but if you're looking around then you might as well just buy some from carfax or w/e you use.

there is a base in Florida but the post is not your regular post it's for more of the um SF type guys... I know of a SFC headed there but he's went through Q Course and all these other stuff for SF and amphibious training. To verify just ask the guy for his military email to verify credentials, email him and wait to see if he reply.

99% of the time offers to ship cars (especially for free??) are fraudulent. I'd tell him you're going to be in the area next week and would like to stop by to take a look at it and see what they say.

I would do like onyx said and tell him you would like to come look at it. You can pm me the vin and i can run a carfax on it if you want, but that wont give you the owners name ...just where it is registered

I'm not sure why everyone advising you to follow up - this is clearly, without a doubt, a scam.

the free ship part isn't what concerned me, military members can ship cars for free. i only know that because my girlfriend has a couple of family members in the military and they do it all the time when they get transferred. thanks for the feedback guys

Don't bring that B.S. to me... WTF ! I'm just ticked that scammers are now trying to use military members as a scam ! I will say this... tell him you are in Fla. and can come by and see the car and then check the response. 99% of military members know when they are deploying unless you are under Special Ops and if you were you have no notice and time to sell your ride. I'm X military and in Law Enforcement for the Federal Government... and never send for shipping ! If you want to throw some money away just send me a check and I will give you my P.O. Box lol, D

according to carfax this car has never been registered outside of CA. It has had 4 owners with the current owner purchasing it on 06/21/2008 with 45,475 miles on it. It is currently registered in Anaheim, CA

thanks P-51 GT, that's what i wanted to know. now i definately know where to tell this guy to shove it. usually i wouldn't even pay attention to a cobra for so cheap but i just wanted to believe that people wouldn't give such BS about being in the military but of course nothing is beyond people these days. thanks.

it's just for the satisfaction of proving us right.

Not only that, but there was a .05% chance it was not a scam. For a Cobra for $2950, it is worth a free e-mail.
