I a new to the forum mainly because I am now at my wits end. I am a technician who has been working on cars for over 10 years. I have a 95 mustang GT vert with 113000 on it. It runs awesome until it stalls out. I have few real altercations because it always ran so good i decided not to install the cobra intake and the cam and the heads etc. I figure with the way gas prices are Ill just leave it so I can enjoy it. Believe me its been difficult not installing all these parts but I have my reasons. Anyway, the car has an MSD plug in ignition, blaster, coil, cold air intake and headers and all that easy quick bolt on stuff. The only thing I recently installed in the new 255 lph fuel pump because the pressure was sitting a little low on my on board gauge.

Anyway, I have been working on these mustangs for several years and in my working on these cars I have never had one stump me so bad. New parts are as follows. Distributor/Pickup. Fuel pump and regulator (Aeromotive adjustable) New ignition Module, CCRM is new. These were all spare parts from a car I converted to carburetor so i switched them out 1 by one hoping to come across what the issue is. . . But no change is symtom. I have done everything I can find as far I diagnostic work by checking values etc. The car will run great for 20 min then just die and crank. Then i get it towed or wait it out and it will start. Then Ill let it run for 2 hours idling in front of my shop and it wont miss a beat. I know its ignition related because I always have fuel pressure. The only thing I am thinking about beyond where I am at is the EEC or harness. I have performed the ford harness wiggle test repeatedly while it sitting there running and not even a stutter. Anyone who has anything else as far as a clue where to go with this I would be eternally grateful. The problem is I cant get the car to fail when I am in a position to search for the problem. It will only fail when it is driven it seems. Def seems temp related but then I can go out after it has been sitting for 2 days and it may fire it may just crank. Of course I never have issues fixing everyone elses car, But when it comes to my own. . . AHHH

I have a similar problem with mine, and have found absolutely no rhyme or reason why it is doing it. On my car, it will drive fun for literally hundreds of miles, then blow the fuse to the EEC - and thusly, die where it sits.

I've had a guy I know who is a wiring guru try to identify what's happening, and the best he's been able to discover through review of the factory diagrams is that something on the same circuit as the EEC/CCRM has an intermittent short. He suspects that it is a hardware short (not wiring) on something with a coil, like an emissions solenoid or similar since they get their power from the same circuit.

We've tried the "wiggle test" repeatedly on my car as well, and have never been able to pinpoint the problem.

When the car dies, and you are cranking, have you determined if the injectors are opening/closing? That should tell you for sure if it is EEC related - which I agree it probably is.

Keep us posted.

Paul.

I actually don't know because when it breaks down and wont run i am always alone and can't turn the key and test the injectors. SO frustrating. I just seriously have no idea how to get it to fail. Its bizarrrr. I feel like its ecm related. Have you had any codes since you started having these failures? I too have gone through factory diagrams and I haven't be able to find a single thing that leads me anywhere. I have swapped out just about everything there is trying to just get a clue about what is going on.

But I havent gotten anywhere as of yet. I have a snap on solus which is about to scan just about any car out there and it give me no codes present. Which makes me crazy and make me strongly see the EEC as being the problem.

I just now ran the car in my garage for 1 hr. with the scanner hooked up and it did not waver at all.

Driving it until it fails seems to be the only option.

Miserable. Thanks for the reply.

Ill let you know if I come up with anything.

why not pick up a spare computer and plug that in, see what happens? they seem to be fairly cheap... cheap enough to use as a trouble shooting item anyways.

I had a used EEC but sold it about 2 weeks ago for $50... check craigslist, or call up your local junkyard...

hey, thanks for the post. But I am looking for an original computer. Part # F4ZF-12A650-EA. T4M0 95 gt vert manual.

Heres something hysterical. I called ford to see if I can have this computer tested and they didnt know what an ECM was in service. Then I talked to the Service Manager and he said I don't think we can test those. . . . . uh next dealership. ha

Re: Heres one for you . . . 95 Gt Vert with a mind of its own or something like

I got a reman. EEC from my parts supplier napa for 125.00. It listed 250.00. Luckily since I run a shop I can get a parts price better then the average Joe. I didn't think they would be able to supply me with one. So its in the car and I drove it to work today. I need to drive it more before I come to a full conclusion. It ran through its re-learn on the way so it ran a little rough. But Straightened out when i went to lunch. Anyway, thanks to those who posted trying to offer help.

I'll inform this post if things turn south with the new comp being the solution. However, I am optimistic.

Thanks Again.

Re: Heres one for you . . . 95 Gt Vert with a mind of its own or something like

its seems as though my mustang wishes me to have more fun then just simply fixing it. I am actually sitting in the car now stuck in a shopping center in VA. trying to decide what to do. Call a truck or not. Anyway, computer is not the solution. I actually brought my scan tool with me and have been driving around with it hooked up. Apparently when you crank your supposed to get a maf reading on the incoming air. Makes sense right. Well when the PIP isnt working the Maf doesn't provide data either. So I believe this issue lies within the pip or the wiring for it. I am trying to get this thing started to get home. But I think i am going to be calling a truck. The air just has that feeling.

Ill write more when i solve this crap.

when my dizzy was going out it would just quit too. since it is not my only car i wasn;t in any hurry to get it fixed so it would sit for a week or so then start right up be ok for a couple days then quit again. did that for a couple months all the while i swaped parts in and out with no change. the dizzy was my last item and i picked up an OEM one off ebay and it's still workin today but it has picked up the death squeel soo that will be coming out before long too. good luck to you

Re: Heres one for you . . . 95 Gt Vert with a mind of its own or something like

I am going to trace all the PIP wiring down this evening after work to see if its a disturbed wire or a faulty PIP. I Believe the way it acts in reference to heat it is actually the pickup itself but I am sick of playing games. I will fix this now that I actually have a documented failure from my trusty Snap On Scanner. This expensive piece of crap finally does something for me. In all fairness I don't really have any cars or truck with actual OBDII so the sensor data stream and functional testing for the cars themselves is very limited. Not the scanners fault but at least its saving me from tearing my hair out or worse. . . . . Once again I'll update when I know more.

Thanks again to you guys for your info and input.

Very interested in your findings so keep us posted. I cant even drive mine for more than 3 miles before it shuts off, like yours. I can come back 2hrs later and it starts right up though.

Re: Heres one for you . . . 95 Gt Vert with a mind of its own or something like

I started looking at the wiring last night and I noticed that the wiring to the PIP plug on the harness seems to be a rubbing on the coolant gauge sender to the right of the distributor. Its showing some of the shielded wire under the tape but I have yet to find any damage. I have a test I need to run to check the sources and values for the 7 wires in this bunch. There are specific signals that they are all supposed to have. I will post the information about how to check this tonight. Its info straight off my snap on scanner. They were nice enough to provide a way to export and print this information. So I will one way or another get it on here for you all to use.

I'll let you know asap
Thanks

Re: Heres one for you . . . 95 Gt Vert with a mind of its own or something like

hey guys,

sorry for not getting on here and posting sooner. I traced all my wires and essetially none of them seemed to have a flaw. There is a diagram I will try to post so you can test your wires as well if you so choose. I got another remaned distributor to replace the other one which seemed to be defective when hot and i drove the car to work today and it seemed to run ok. No symptoms of stalling just yet. However, for some reason now I have a vacuum leak at my IAC valve and it has only been sitting for a week. Weird things happen when you neglect your mustang I suppose.

If anyone needs help using this diagram let me know and I will be glad to help in anyway I can. Also, I am going to post a diagram I found for the ecm and other sensor/component wiring/pinout.

They are attached to this post

So, fiveliter...Did the distributor solve the problem?? I am having that very same problem, and as I read through the posts, we are not alone. DesertCox has suggested the distributor to me, and I think (or I REALLY hope) that he's right. I'm swapping mine in the morning.
