these questions have probably already been answered on here but there are alot of post to look threw so if anyone minds helping then thanks

i blew the engine in my mustang and had a few questions.
1. is it possible to remove and install the engine with the tranny attached? i've done it on military trucks or i wouldn't ask.
2. if not i have long tube headers on my engine do they need to come off and if so then do both need to come off. and is there a way to pull the transmission without taking my headers off?
i have bbk longtube headers and they are a pain to pull off and put on

I've pulled two 4.6's with the T45 still attached.

You just have to hoist the engine real high so you can angle the whole thing just right to where the trans will clear the engine bay. It helps to have someone under the car pulling down on the trans.

The longtubes need to come off before you pull the engine. Getting those things off is huge pain, but if I remember correctly you can't get the engine/tranny out with the longtubes attached.

In your case it would be easiest to drop the K member and lift the body of the car up and over the engine, trans, crosmember combo. But to answer your questions
1. Yes, just pop off the hood and you'll have all the clearance you need. May be helpful to take off the Intake manifold (I already had mine off when I pulled my engine and trans as one), easier to see clearances and such.
2. Dont quote me on this but I think that they would have to come off, BBK long tubes arent known for giving you a lot of room to work with, hence why in my honest opinon, I think your best bet is to lift the car off the engine/trans/K-member

lift the car off the engine... what all does that require pull out the drive shaft, unhook the wires, and unhook the radiator.
this sounds easier and i do have access to a lift to pick up the car

Yes, yes and yes lol Among other little odds and ends, like unbolting accessories (unblot them from the block and push them aside. i.e. a/c compressor, pwr steering etc.)This way once everything is clear you can unbolt the K, lift the car itslef and just roll out the engine and trans. If your a tech for the military you wont have any issues, it's very straight foward...just turning some nuts and bolts and very self explanitory once you dive into it.

an engine stand, some blocks of wood like I did lol. An engine stand and a trans jack would be ideal. I'm sure you have those in your shop right? Are you working on the car at base?

I believe all that needs is an intake manifold swap, and transfer over your front cover for the accessories. Worst case senario is swap your heads over too...if they are in ok shape.

The Power Improved cylinder heads and I/M were introduced in 99 for the mustang, I think they were on Vics and F150's sooner though. Anyway, I would go with PI if I were you, little more OEM power (about 50hp over 96-98 non-pi engines), I have a PI engine from 03 in mine. Slightly better aftermarket support, but that also can be solved on a non-pi with a simple PI head and I/M swap. How many miles are on the PI engine and how many on the crown vic motor?

Depends on what is wrong with it. I'm sure a rebuild will cost you more than 1500....that kind of cash will more than likely ony get you the rotating assembly and possibly also cover the cost of any maching you might need, but nothing else.

Crown vics weren't PI untill 01.

All PI long blocks are the same so any will work.

99+ Mustang GT -PI
01+ Crown Vics, F-150, Etc are the same.

I dropped the motor on my car in 2 ours and rolled the K member back under the car and was out the door in another hour. Its the easiest way for me.
