HID's and ABS light

I just installed HIDs in my 1996 Mustang GT this weekend, the ABS light is on now. Do i need to run a relay on it? or could it just be a ground issue?

Did you check to make sure you have brake fluid? You may need to just disconnect the battery for a 7-10 minutes. And you could try a different ground, it couldn't hurt.

where did you mount the ballasts at?

It's usually do to the passenger ballast being to close to the abs module I think. It would happen on my car from time to time when my ballasts were just flopping around

I mounted the drivers side behind the battery, the passenger side under the intake and never had an issue with mine. Running headlight and fog lights as well.

^I thought the abs sensors were closer to the strut tower.

I have mine mounted next to the battery but closer to the front of the car.

I mounted the Ballasts right under the plastic shroud behind the grille in between the headlights and radiator. I changed grounds just to see what will happen. I grounded them in the same spot behind the passenger side light, thinking that it was interfereing with the rest of the wiring at the batteries and sharing grounding mounts with a few things. i dunno.

I think these are the same ones I bought. It has a lead straight to the battery from what i think is some sort of a relay? again I dunno.

yea I have heard of people having issues when they put them up front of the core support.

I've tried everything I can think of and searched up on various sites, seems to be a recurring issue with all cars and HIDs. I've moved the grounds all over the place. Flipped over the ballasts, like some found worked. I dunno what else to do other than moving them behind the core support.

I guess I'm going to try that tomorrow and put them behind like you did. Where did you ground yours?

I grounded EVERYTHING(relay and otherwise) to the battery directly.

Before I move the ballasts I'll connect the grounds direct to the battery to see if that fixes my problem. Just for the heck of it. then I'll probably move them If it doesn't fix the problem. Eventually it has got to be resolved, I mean how many more setups, grounds and locations can I go with them? haha

everything grounds back to the batt so by connecting there you should minimize the chance for problems.

That worked for me too. I think it's because the HID ballasts take so much current at start up that it messes with all the other electronics. If you start them before It has already gone though the start up process so less current draw?

well yes and no. At the start they draw normally a max of 15 amps and then they go down to 6-8 I think it was. Your stock halogens took 15 amps just to flicker, what the system doesn't like is the change in current as the ballast gets going. Hids use less current then halogens.

I did everything everyone mentioned in regards to posistion of ballasts. The only location that worked was dead center on the radiator reinforcement. With them there I couldn't have the factory cover. I decided to make a Faraday "wrapping." It worked some but if I went into a corner the light would flicker. Now I just have then located down in front of the radiator. Not worth the hassle IMO if you can just simply turn them on before the you start the car.

I guess I'll just turn them on before I crank the car, until I can figure out something else. My halogen bulbs were so dark in the housings I have that I could barely see the road at night.

Honestly, i cant say what causes this. One thing you might want to try is Relay harness like you suggested, but still i get the ABS light with the harness. What i had to do was move the ballast around the engine bay till i barely got the ABS light when turning on the hids. I had to buy extension wires so i move the ballast anywhere i wanted.

One thing i would like to note is i brought a new relay harness kit 3 months ago and it kept tripping the ABS light no matter what i did. It came with 30amp fuse in there. Soon as i changed it to a 25amp fuse the ABS light doesn't come on anymore. Soon as i put in the 30amp fuse the light comes on.

Now its a 1 and thousand chance i get the ABS light.. i have seen it acouple times, but nothing like before. I can go weeks/months without seeing it.
