i want to know if any of you have had any paint bubbling or other issues when you took off your hood insulator? i want to take mine off but im worried the engine may get too hot and mess up the paint on the hood

My R hood didn't even come with a liner. I'd be willing to bet black paint in the sun gets hotter than your paint would get from sitting over your engine.

When I had mine fixed up, I bought a 96 Cobra hood for it. Came with a insulator, looked like crap though. I left it off. Drive mine every day, not problems!

My 00 vert and my 94 GT are both missing the underhood liner, and i have no problem with the paint.

I was told it was a fire blanket not an insulator. I was told that if the motor catches fire, the plastic tabs melt and it falls on teh motor and helps to sufficate it?

I dont see how that will help, seeing how when you get a fire going the oxygen will try to come from under the fire(under the car)
I was wondering the same thing, I was wanting to take mine off

The only thing I lost was AM radio reception. There is an aluminum shield on the top side which is grounded on the passenger side hood bracket. The shield eliminates RF interference from the engine.

I removed the liner on both my 00 GT and my 96 GT as well as numerous cars before that (including a turbo car with OEM hood) and never had a single issue

Word of warning, if you still have OEM paint it will more then likely not be finished under the liner, it annoyed me to look at so I painted the underside on both of my mustangs

he is correct that if the hood is not grounded that it can act as a shield to the radio stations in some cases. It was one of the little secrets an old-school installer showed me one day by disconnecting the hood from the ground with the radio on.
