Anyone gonna do it?

I've wanted to do it since I was a little kid (of course, I figured I'd be rockin a real muscle car :BangHead: ) so I'm pretty sure I'm gonna load up and do it now that I'm old enough. One of my friends (the one with 86 GT) and her dad are gonna go this year. She'll be driving the 86 and there's no telling what her dad'll be driving (63 Impala, 70 GTO, or a 80's Camaro, depends on which one actually gets fixed). I'm pretty sure we're gonna go the full distance from Wisconsin all that way back down here to Bristol, TN. So anyone else gonna join me?

full distance? From Bristol to Wisconsin? WTF is that? thats like a 3 hour tour, not power tour. they've really hacked it down haven't they.
I've been twice. We went to Ft Worth in '04 and again in '06 for the Kissimee => Englishtown(from houston) and it really sucked. There weren't as many vendors or even as many people in '06.
I'd like to go but the truth is, there are probably other rod runs around the country that would be worth looking into if its still being run the same way.

It starts in Madison, Wisconsin and ends in Bristol, TN. Just looked it up on Google Maps and its about 750 mi. Plenty long for me and my car. Haha, my next few months are gonna be spent making sure my car's in tip-top shape for it. My friend and her dad went a few years ago in their GTO and ended up on the video Hot Rod made of it... because their radiator sprung a leak or something. Don't want that to happen to me haha.

lol someone did that to me the other day and i couldn't stop laughing.

if you are going preregister. it makes it so much faster you just walk up and show your insurance card(i think she asked me for one) and drivers license and walk off w/ a bag full of goodies.
they put a card in the bag but don't really explain it, basically you take the card to each vendor booth and they stamp it you get free shirts and decent freebies. try to park next to the awsome-ish cars and you can sneak into hot rod like i did for the tulsa coverage.
dang, i've almost talked myself into going again. :checks vacation hours at work: thats it i'm going.

I sorta lucked out on the location. I was trying to decide whether or not I really wanted to do it and when my friend told me it ended up in the same state, I was like heck yea. They've went a couple of times before so I'm sure they will know how to get around there.

If a few of us do it, we need to try and meet up sometime along the ride. I'm already excited.

So BigTang- how much do you think I need to save up for this? My parents are gonna help out a little, but I'd rather pay for as much of it as I can.

Figure out your mileage and add another tank or 2 of night time cruising to that.
Figure out that you'll need a hotel each night. if you stay w/ a friend that would help. we got a good deal through LaQuinta because we stayed at a different one each night, the lady i talked to at their 800 # thought it was funny so she gave me a good discount.
in all i probably spent $2k on the trip. but most of it was on eating out and buying stuff i have no idea what all i bought. it could easily be done w/ careful planning for $1000 or less if you are good w/ budgeting and the car doesn't eat gas. enroll in AAA or get roadside on your insurance just incase(flat, out of gas, ran over a skunk, etc.)

That's not all that bad. Gas is gonna my killer with my 4.10s... That's defiently gonna be my biggest expense. I'm not really worried TOO much about wasting my money on stuff, I tend to be able to hold out... I think my parents have decided to pay for lodging, so that'll be a big help. I'm gonna try and save up around $3k so I'll enough in case something does go wrong. I'd rather have more than not enough anyday.

And def count on a ton of pics, but don't expect them til June! :D
