My uncle has in his shed a 351w. Well, the 351 has been overheated and actually on fire before. :hammer: But How bad is the overheating on an engine?

depends how bad it was overheated lol, it will usually just blow headgaskets and stuff. sometimes if it's bad enough it will melt a rod or warp a head. but that's REALLY severe. just get it machined and it would be fine.

I figured it would warp the heads and such, but I just didn't know what it would do to the block itself. Im not worried about the heads or internals.

....take it to a machine shop ...they can clearify if its done or not.....heads are iron if the heads can be warped ...so can the block ...and overheating is kinda a understatement if the engine was on fire lol

lol, it didn't overheat enough to catch fire, this was before, it backfired out of the carb and caught something on fire.

i over heated once where all my coolant shot out my overflow tank. I still havent got it checked out but it was like 2 years ago. However, now i have to run the heater on full blast in the summer or else the car will overheat.

I think my radiator is shot =[

I don't care if you threw the block in a bonfire - it's probably nothing some good machinework wouldn't cure. However, machinework costs $$$.

Ya think LMAO!!! If your tight on money get you a mishimoto radiator from americanmuscle.com... Myself and several others have it and have had NO problems since installing it.

When my '66 had the 289 in it that was .040 over bore, any sitting in traffic would get it hot quick. My heater was always on in the summer.

that sounds like a blast :hammer:

Nope, its not a blast. CAn you imagine sitting in traffic with the top down and sun blarring on you with the heat on full blast? I look like a sweaty basketball player by the time i get out the car :hammer:

Mine too, Georgia summers don't help them any. Gotta love the radiator design on those, vertical flow with the inlet and outlet on the same side :uglystupid2: :hammer:

Initially had a flex fan and shroud and it did good everywhere except idle. Then I put an electric fan on it and it ran dead on 180 degrees in idling in traffic, but b/c the radiator was so thick (4.5 core copper brass) the faster you went, the pressure drop made the fan increasingly useless. It was lose/lose.
