i suggest buying a set of OEM Black ones, if you can find them. paint and your time will offset the $20.00 cost of OEM used bezzles....

but if you do want to do them yourself...

open trunk
remove plastic pegs holding in far-rear plastic pannel on the inside
remove plastic pegs taht hold in all the card-board liners
remove liners (there are three of them total.)
remove the 6 nuts ( i think there are 6) that hold each tail light in.
slide the tail light housing forward
USE PAINTERS TAPE AND A SHARPIE TO LABEL EACH LIGHT BULB SO YOU DONT FORGET WHICH ONES GO WHERE
remove the light bults (twist and pull, they just lock in)
remove the three tiny screws holding the bezzles on (i think there are three)
unclip the bezzles and remove them from the housing.
paint (this includes sanding and priming)
install is reverse of removal.

its pretty hard to put the bulbs back in wrong. The inner-most bulb only has two wires because they arent used when braking, the middle and outer-most bulbs are the same and can be interchanged if you dont have sequentials, and the reverse light is a different size socket.

umm i didn't take my bulbs out, when you get the liner out of the way in the trunk, and undo the nuts holding the light inplace, undo the clip on the harness of the lights,, and pull it through the hole, then just unscrew the bezel from the actual taillight, and bam..no need to have to label lightbulbs or anything

Not all 96-98 bezels are easy to get off. My passenger side bezel was a bitch and a half to separate from the housing. I wouldnt have wanted to do that while the bulbs were still attached. Not just for making it harder to manipulate, but having that much fuss with something like that, would have probably scratched up the bumper and decklid if I had tried to disassemble it while still basically attached to the car.
