depends on the quality of chrome, condition, etc... you could take it off with a grinder, possibly sand blasting? I'm not sure
about chemically stripping chrome...

I'm at work right now but check some of my previous posts. I posted how to paint over them and I have read aircraft stripper but I have also read that you have to use something more abrassive like muriatic acid.

Never done it, but seen aircraft stripper take it right off.

Don't quote me on it.

I have heard of people using this as well.

I dont think airscraft cleaner will work. If their not pitted i would just paint over but the link that win posted looks like the way to go if you want to remove the chrome. Dont use a grinder because you wont be able to control the surface contact points to make it even.

Yeah and also when your painting make sure you prep the surface also really good.

I think chrome might look nice on your car. At least throw them on there before you strip them and see how they look.
