your following a post that has been dead for over 10 years. I mean if this post were a kid they would be in the 5th grade...

I started to think some of the old crew showed back up.
It's just for my reference so I can reference back to read it if I want to reference back some of the things said.

I think I am fine by the way but like I said, just for reference

It's one of the easiest ways to reference back something that you checked out and participated in or watched versus trying to or having to Google all over again and wonder what form you read what in LOL

Thanks for bringing this back up, it confirms what I have been going through with my car.
In a nutshell what have you been going through and what was your fix? And that's why people who frown on bringing up old threads sometimes it can be relevant for someone LOL

I upgraded my oil pressure and temp gauges (https://accutach.com/gauge-upgrades) and basically freaked when I saw how far temp needle moved.
Car has new radiator & hoses, water pump, expansion tank and cap and I put a 180 deg thermostat in.

I put a manual gauge on it and it got to 250 deg at idle after a run to get to operating temp. (cooling fan disconnected to fit manual gauge in the temp sender location).
The temp was ok while the car was moving and would come down while driving after idling for a short time.

I bought a new 190 deg thermostat to try from Rock Auto but it didn't fit? so I tested the 180 and original 190 in a pot on the stove and they both worked as they should with the 180 opening sooner and wider than the 190 so I thought what the hell and reinstalled the original 190 and it controlled the temp a lot better specifically at idle after getting it up to temp.
After several times draining and refilling the cooling system I might have got too much coolant in the expansion tank because it started overflowing through the cap when hot, so I removed some coolant and reinstalled the old cap, last test run all was well.

I put a scanner on the car and the cooling fan was coming on low speed at 103 C and off at 97 C (approx. 217 f - 206 f) which appears to be quite normal.

I have moved the needle on the gauge so it doesn't look so alarming at 'normal' operating temperatures.

The previous posts on this thread have helped put my mind at ease about the temps these engines operate at.

a VERY important part that is often missing from either scraping it off with lowered suspension or because someone working on it just thought it was a stupid little piece of useless plastic.

This stupid little piece of plastic is there because it creates a low pressure area behind it, which helps to suck the heat out/down/under the car. If your car is getting hot while rolling, but stays cool while idling look under the core support and see if it is there or gone.
