I'm looking at the forums and thinking that I'm nearly the only person here to have kept a underpowered kinda plain looking car for 11 year's year's now. My 97 was my first car, saved up and put 9k down on it when I was 16. I took deliver on September 22 1996, a month and a day after delivery. Immediatly drove home and welding in Flow's and pulled the air silencer :( :naughty:

So what's everyone else's story?

okay heres my story. my gf bought her Mustang new and took delivery April of 97. i met my gf in October of 97 and we have been together since then. the first thing we did was CAI, air silencer and flows... i guess thats where we all start. the car was basically just another clean car in the driveway until Linda, in 04, decided she wanted a personalized tag. she didnt want just any PT either, she wanted the one that had a Mustang on it. well in order to get that tag, you must be a member of the Oklahoma Mustang Club... so we joined.

BIGGEST MISTAKE SHE EVER MADE... she created a monster!! im a detailer by trade so we started showing the car and winning, then i got talked into going to the track (drag) and that led to where it is today. right now, ive got the old NPI powerplant (if you can call it that) out and im doing an 01 PI motor swap with additional bolt ons and cams

ive posted this in another thread but here's what my new mods list consist of:

01 PI Motor Swap, K&N FIPK CAI, C&L Plenum, BBK 75mm TB, Comp XE262AH Cams,
BBK O/R X-Pipe, Steeda UDP's, Motive 390's, MGW Short Throw, 17x9/10.5 Cobra R's,
NT555R Extreme DR's, Eibach Pro Kit Springs, Tokico HP Blues, UPR/Shark CC Plates,
Lower Torque Box Reinforcements, Lakewood Traction Action Lift Bars, MM FLSFC's,
TrickFlow Rear End Girdle, Swapped and Dyno Tuned at SWTuning.com in OKC, OK

im just tickled pink about the whole thing :dancing6:

btw, over the years the car has become more and more mine. i drive it, race it, mod it, etc... thank god she loves me!!!

To answer the original posters question no I didn't buy mine new but since everyone else is putting their story I'll put mine.

I bought the car a little over a year ago when I was sixteen. It was completely stock and in the past year has recieved the SLP Loudmouth catback, Pypes Catted X midpipe, and 18" 03 cobras. This car is pretty much my life. :naughty:

I need to get deeper into my chassis myself. The stories behind car's are as interesting to me as the car's themselves. I always heard my Dad talk about this Chevelle or that GTO that was eventually taken to the scrap yard etc, and vowed it would never happen to me.

BTW above it should read that I tooke delivery a month and a day after my birthday.

I started saving for the car when I was 13, I worked everyday before and after school, and weekeds. I sold all my hobby-grade RC's, my bow, and some of my rifles and shotgun's. I even built a Harley out of spare part's, just to sell to get some cash. I wish I could be that dedicated to a goal now, lol.

first car was a 88 LX 4 banger, trans was leaking and about to leave so i got it for 500 bucks. Drove it till i was 17, totaled it in a t bone and then got a early 80's cadi and drove it for about 2 months, sold it for 3 times what i paid for it to a ghetto thug. :pimp: Then my brother was trying to sell his 98 Gt vert "fully loaded, with 20k miles", It was completely stock exept for a complete cobra body kit, steeda race wing, r hood with 96 scoops, 30% tint, and eibachs with a coil cut off them. I got it in 2000 for the low low low price of 13k. My life saving was gone and then some but i never had to make a payment lol. other than that it stayed that way for a while then i started by putting mac catback and mac prochamber on it and then i put a pi intake. So now i'm getting tired of the loudness of the car and i'm putting the stock exaust back on, the air silencer back in, and i'm slappen some 2000 5.4L 2v PI heads on there with a minor port job, valve job, valve guides, and such with the pi cams, and intake. Then i'm getting a tune and maybe some gears and just maybe a 5 speed swap. Then i'm saving my money and working on a 4v motor and supercharger and i'm going to be restoring my 64 Chevy C10 stepside. :thumb:

i didnt buy my car new...

i bought it May 21st 2006 5 days before my 16th birthday (got a loan for 10k for it) so ive had it a little over a year. when i got it it was bone stock, and i thought it was a badass little car, but i didnt know much of anything about them. in the year ive owned it, ive purchased 3 different pi intakes 1 set of pi cams, cobra r hood, 3 different sets of wheels and tires, s281 spoiler, ford c springs, 2 different nitrous kits, and its supercharged now. i think ive done pretty good with it so far, just wish i still had a pi intake to go on it...

You bought three PI intakes and don't have one for the car now? That's the biggest bottleneck on it right now then.

Yep, well my question is... if you bought this model of mustang and your doing that much work on it and your 16/17... where the fuck are you getting the money from ?? I'm 22 and i can bearly aford a set of head gaskets ... Anyway, with that kinda money i would have bought the cobra or something lol. Nice car though.

I bought my car 1 day before my 16th B-day. It was a one owner car with 54,376 miles on it and was owned by a doctor. I had just ask'd my current GF out that day so we where on our first date when I picked it up. LOL, She didn't know what to think. I'm just about to turn 17 this september, 8th and I haven't done much to it other than a K&N fipk, saleens, and flows (this sat. I'm welding in straights). all my other money I've spent on it has been repairs, I've poped the intake manifold, I'm on my secound set of rear tires, and I just rebuilt my tranny cause a seal went out and it wouldn't shift 1st to 2nd. But other than that I love my car and it is my life, and comes before any girl.

Also for those who are wondering where we get our money I'm 16 I have two jobs during summer and during the school year I'm a mechanic in the small engine industry and I make 8.30 an hour. In Iowa thats alot, expecially when you don't have any expenses other than payment, gas, and insurance. I bought the car in perfect condition for 7,300 bucks.
