Remove the fill plug and stick your pinky finger in..use it like a dipstick.

That is how I do it.

I've got an automatic, but they have to be in the same general spot! I had Lokar's added, but here's mine:

Get under there with a 3/8 ratchet and extension. The plug has a square peg hole. The extension fits right in. There are two plugs one is a check and the lower is the drain. Be sure your on a flat surface.

The T5 does not have a dipstick... you have to get under the car and stick your finger in the fill plug.. the correct level is right at the hole... when the car is level... The fill plug comes out with your standard 3/8" ratchet.

Good luck..

if you have never changed the fluid, or just bought the car and don't have documentation as to the last fluid change I would go ahead and change the fluid.

Use the top plug to check fluid/add fluid and the bottom plug is to drain the fluid.

I have found that when filling it is easiest to fill from inside the car, by removing the shifter boot and trans dust boot then feed a tube down and into the fill plug.
