was going up a hill, and about to get on the highway, when it just made 3 knocking sounds, then died, coasted to a parking lot, and called a wrecker lol... engine is siezed, and alot of metal shavings on the dipstick... i think i snaped a rod, or the timing chain broke... not sure will probably tear into it later today... i think its safe to say this one isnt rebuild able, just due to amount of metal on the dip stick, so im probably either building the windsor in my garage, or try to find a 5.4 a little sooner then i was told... im realy wanting to do the latter.

5.4 FTW!! How many miles were on it?

the odo says about 182k, but its more like 150ish due to the gears...

BUT....

i tore the drivers side cam cover off, and found that the timing chain is loose as shit, and one of the guids seems to be extended all the way out, and the other one looks like its missing... but just for shits and gigs, i tried crank it over to see if maybe the cam froze or something like that... but it fired right up, and no knocking or anything... just the chain jumping like crazy, and rattling from inside the cover...

my plan is to tear the timing cover off, and see if everyting is in tact or not... if it is, then i know something in the bottom end is fucked, if it isnt, then i know that i have a problem in the timing set, and, if i can get away with replacing the set... i will.

im kinda mad that it doesnt need a motor, i had huge plans, and could have it done with about 1500 bucks, but if i can take the easy road out... im going to...

But, if the valves were bent, it would never have started up again... And even if it did, it would have a helacious miss... Which it doesnt.

I'm kinda stumped at the moment, but like I said, I will know alot more once the timing cover is off...

tensioner failed?

im not placing the blame on the tensioner yet... because if you look closely, the guide is missing from the drivers side, and is broken on the passengers side... it also looks like the chain has eaten away at the little rod that comes from the tesioner.

i think the car died because the drivers side guid fell from where its supposed to be, and got lodged somewhere, then in the midst of moving it to the shop, became unlodged from where it was, and let the car start up... but idk righ now...

does any one know if you can pull the oil pan while the engine is still in the car?

what about all the metal you said u saw in the oil?

im thinking thats from the chain hitting the tensioner... or hitting the cover itself...

well, i put it back togethor completely, and it made a wierd noise... now i know why.

my crank timing gear was fucked so i used one from my windsor in my garage.. aparently it had a small lip on it, and the gt gear didnt... i also used the csps gear from the gt, but i should have used the one from the f150... the small lip, along with the thickness of the csps gear was aparently too thick to run under the timing chain cover... when i test fired it, i didnt have all the bolts in the timing cover, and the one in it, wernt even tight. so it wasnt tight enough to rub the csps gear on the inside of the cover.

needless to say, ive got it tore apart again, and have to run the much thinner f150 csps gear, and have to have my timing chain cover welded up, no big deal, it seems like it may have been cracked before...

there is some truth as to why this happens. depends on new provisions on crank gear and trigger wheel. let me dig it up.

belay my last on that. your timing pieces are fatigued. look on MMR's website and get the tensioners and chains of trickflows. theyre decently priced and good quality. id also get a new trigger wheel. it might of gotten fubared. get the ford replacement though. new design made them strengthened. old ones cracked. i'm going to throw a culprit as your guides took a digger from evidence.

Thanks for basically repeating what I've already posted.

You can see I already have new guides/ chains/ and tensioners... And the the csps gear as well...
