Well the time has come and I had to replace the front brakes on my 95 Cobra. Got new pads and new rotors because the old ones couldnt be turned anymore. And guess what???? Now i need a thicker spacers for my 15 inch weld rims to clear. I hate brakes. Always requires me to do a little exra work. Change the rear caliper, get out the grinder, new rotors on the front, time to grind them or get a lil bigger spacer. Sorry for the rant, just had to vent a little.

I'm not surprised Cobra brakes don't clear 15" wheels. Are there any 15" wheels they are known to fit?

Don't get it, how could changing pads/rotors make your wheel clearance change?

the new pads probably push the caliper out ever-so-slightly. I wouldn't be too bummed, it's no secret most 15" wheels need spacers to clear the Cobra brakes.

that physically impossible unless hes using different thickness pads on either side of the rotor, in which case hed have to run a thicker pad on the front side of the rotor.

how is that impossible? it's a floating design caliper, the thicker pad you put on the outside of the rotor the further out the caliper would have to move...

I'll trade you my GT brakes for your cobra brakes. Just sayin.

I already stated that and why would you ever consider running two different thickness pads is beyond my wildest dreams.

Did I mention that the caliper floats within a thing they call a caliper bracket, which is bolted directly to your spindle.

you wouldn't run different pads, but as the pads wear down the outside edge of the caliper would actually move inward because the pistons only push from the inside.

Exactly what OnyxCobra stated. I was hoping a resurfacing on the front rotors was in my future, as not to tempt fate, but they were already out of acceptable specs. Guess I will be replacing my 1/4" wheel spacers tomorrow with slightly thicker ones. Found a broken abs sensor also, but im sure the massive difference in tire size nulls that problem anyways.

So when the rims were originally test fit with an already thinned out rotor and worn pads clearance was tight to begin with. Then upon replacing a new rotor and set of pads clearance became fubar. That would be the correct explanation. A simple pad swap with a correctly fit wheel to start with could and would never cause this issue. Again ill stand by all my previous statements. A spacer swap is no biggie if it saves the wheel.

Ill be getting different spacers tomorrow, but I actually thought the 2nd owner of this car managed to do something right for a change. First owner had the car and it was mainly used for the dragstrip. Then the second owner got it and tried to make it more street oriented, which was a miserable fail. The idiot had a 6 rib belt on the supercharger even, when it has an 8 rib pulley setup. Bout the only thing the 2nd owner did right was trade it in on another car, hopefully one that didnt need of work. I ran into a similar problem on the rear when I switched out a caliper. When I had it all apart, I noticed the rotor wasnt centered in the caliper bracket as it should be. They had moved a washer from where it should have been to create the clearance at the expense of having the rotor off centered in the caliper bracket.

just put some 17's...
Too much weight for an already heavy car. I love how little the skinny's up front weigh. When I make the motor a 363 stroker in the spring, im gonna need every advantage I can get to make it hook up.
