Removing my catted X for a o/r h, all goes well until i come across one nut that is cross threaded halfway up the stud on the drivers side :BangHead: thanks impact...

anyways, im on day 3 of trying to get the SOB off,and just cant get it, YES I HAVE SEARCHED! and i have tried everything..

PB blast, a lot of it
Heat
Double nut method to remove whole stud
1/2 in impact gun
working the nut back and forth, it can only move about a turn and a half

im at a complete loss on the 3rd day of this easy install, every other nut came off with no trouble at all! even the pesky passenger side

i dont know what to do, sure i could cut the stud right off, but then i still need to get it out!

and no, i am not going to remove the complete manifold.

any ideas??!?!?

Use a torch and melt the damn bolt. I had to do that on a 4.6, then re drill and tap a new hole on the mill.

Well, then you probably won't get it off. The stud is destroyed anyway, so you're going to need to do something to repair it if/when you ever get it out.

It takes a lot less than three days to pull a header off a car. Stop killing yourself trying to work it while it's on the car and pull it off.

Paul.

it would take me just as long to remove the whole manifold as it did to get the nut off, im in a driveway with basic tools , i ended up using my buddies small dremel with a cut off wheel and cut the nut on both sides and poped it off, everything is fine now

thanks guys

So with half the stud cut off now, how do you plan on re-attaching your exhaust? What I'm saying is that if you already spent three days working on the car, and in the end you're just going to have to pull the manifold anyway in order to repair the stud, what's the use of waiting?

Doesn't make much sense to me.

Ok un-crinkle a ten dollar bill out of your pocket, go to a muffler shop, have them torch the bolt out, use remaining $2.80 to purchase new bolts w/nuts.

Too bad you already got it off, I woulda said breaker bar, and man handling. But, like Paul said, removing the thing would be easier. Theres prolly 8 nuts holding it on (Idk exactly on your car) and they are easy enough to get to when you move some junk out of the way.
