I want to buy a car that the insurance company totaled but still has the engine, tranny, and rearend.

do you guys know if they auction these cars off or what do they do with them? I know my uncle totaled his camaro and it had a ls1 backed by a 6speed in it with 30k miles on it and he could've bought it back for $900, but didn't(I wanted to but he didn't tell anyone about it until like a month later that he wrecked the car)

I want one that either has a blown motor or been wrecked but not totaled. So, we're both kinda in the same boat.

Tell ya what, you find a car, take the driveline out and I'll take the shell! :drunk:

I notice you live in St. Charles. I live in Fairview Heights and go to school at Ranken. There's a couple kids in my class from St. Charles.

Note to you: Dont go to Wyotech unless money is not an issue.

Second note to you: When an insurance company totals a car they either go to a junkyard or an auction, you would have to call that regions office for said insurance company and find out what they plan on doing with the vehicle. Youll need the inventory number from the car to tell them which one you are interested in.

your best bet if to just wait through a st. louis winter. Honest to god i guarentee there will be at least 10 gt's/cobras wrecked. I can let you know if i hear of anyone selling locally. Only thing i can think of is a burned up 95 cobra.. other than that nothing has come through lately besides a 03 cobra thats sold for 13k totalled.

im on the search for a totalled 96-98 (found a few but noone returns message) if i find one would you be interested in the engine/tranny/rear since your local?

What sucks is i knew of a 97 with a rod knock and I have a buddy with a low mile 97 cobra motor (offered to sell, but its going in his fastback) out of his wifes wrecked car but decided to pass, i could have a running black 97 cobra for under 4500 if i wouldve bought. Too bad im keeping my car as of right now. :comando:

Yeah, you have your General Education courses. But the thing is about Ranken, if your going to stay around this area, when people see "Ranken Technical College" on your resume, your almost a shoe-in. Because of their work ethic grade, the uniforms, having to shave, keep your hair cut and just the general atmosphere. A lot of companies in the region will only hire Ranken graduates. Ranken also has one of the best automotive departments in the Midwest.

i would be interested but it's hard to put a ford in a chevy lol I'd be interested in the transmission if it was a stick cause If i remember they used the t45 in some chevy's too didn't they?

I actually just went and picked up the 80 camaro today. It's really rough but I got it for $400 and the interior is amazing. It came with a radiator a th350 an extra hood and an extra rear glass. Im gonna sell the extra hood and the rear glass to my friend for 300 so I'll have almost gotten the car for free lol

I don't really want an automatic transmission but the guy had it in his truck project and he wanted a stickshift too so he just unbolted it out of his truck and gave it to me along with a 3400 stall converter (lol) I figure i can trade someone for a muncie 4 speed or a t56

There are people all over the country that specialize in wrecked mustangs that can be rebuilt or used for parts. The one near me is Bill Fox Auto Sales. They are in Dover Pa. They always have wrecked Cobra's and Mach 1's there. I believe there is also a place like this near Atlanta Ga.

I know it is a bit far from you, but you will get an idea of what things cost.

im looking more along the lines of a camaro, vette or trans am, because now all i need is a transmission and a 12bolt or 9" rearend

I just bought a crate 400 engine from a friends dad who has had it sitting in his garage for over 10 yrs for $300. I still gotta break this puppy in rofl

theres better deals than that all the time in stl..just harder to find gt's and cobras.. hell a wrecked 97 cobra went for like 3500 and it only need a hood and paint on both bumpers.
