i want exhaust.

well my car is getting terrible gas mileage and I want exhaust. Since the cars in my parents name they won't let me get exhaust because "there's nothing wrong with your mufflers" How would I go about convincing them to let me get new mufflers? I think If I got some lm1 mufflers they wouldn't notice me getting a new x pipe.

so again, how would i go about convincing them to let me get new mufflers, I can't really put holes in my mufflers otherwise it'll be kind of obvious lol.



anyway, i'm going to bed so i'll let u have a night to think about it lol

well if they dont want you to dont since it is technically their car ....but if you still want them and i have no idea what the terrible mileage thing had to do with the story... :dunno: i would go jack up the car and smash you h pipe with something to dislodge it/damage it...then drive around your parents they will notice how horrible loud your car is and ask you about it....say i dont know i did hit something in the road the other day ....bingo new stuff

I'd say just save some cash and pay them for the car. Then do what ever you want to do with it! When i was in HS i just took over the payments for it. then my dad didnt care what i did with it!

Just do it. I was scared for months to even touch my cars exhaust system, If you know me than you know i been through many exhaust systems :hammer: My father doesnt want anything illegal on the car and thats how its been for along time :fart: Till not so long ago i brought an o/r prochamber to hook up to my flowmasters weld on which was on my mac catback lol. They will never notice with just an catback and catted H/X pipe.


Now once you add an o/r pipe than hell yes they will know. MY dad hates my car and doesnt know why he does. Well, he use to love it, but now that it has mac dumps with o/r h and its loud as hell hes scared ill get pulled over.

Moral? Just put some mufflers and buy a catted midpipe to change the sound. This way your car stays legal and they will never know. I had the lm1s welded in with an catted h and they werent loud.. just changed the tone. So, keep it legal and you will be fine.

the car is already payed for, and in a year the car will be in my name anyway.. so i don't understand why they just won't let me get it now instead of later. lol

I thought about like drilling holes in my mufflers but then we were having a huge argument about me getting exhaust...(and how I'm like a 4 year old wanting what everyone else has...i don't understand...) I said something about I'm just gonna drill holes in my mufflers and pipe and then I'd have to get new ones and then they said they'd just sell the car. (probably the wrong thing to say lol)

I don't want to be illegal I just want some weld in slp's and then a catted x or h pipe later on.

I'm just tired of having the stock exhaust.. it's just too quiet I want to be able to rev my car and people actually hear it lol

That was a bad move! You never show your hand before you lay your cards down! You shouldn't have told them what you 'thought' about doing. I say leave it how it is until you can change it on your own. What is a year? It's your punishment for telling him what you were going to do.

why not buy an o/r H, have it sent to a friend's house, put it on over there. then go home and when your parents say something, be like "Oh well, the old one is gone already." you might bet grounded but it will be well worth it... :2funny: :2funny:

you probably dont need a catback. if it feels restrictive then one or all of your cats are probably going bad. if thats the case, then you could get an h or x pipe and do what dfg said and change it out. or you could just gut the cats out for free and then they would truely never know what you did. then when they get under your car and look, its still the same midpipe.

i happen to have basically a brand new one if you need it lol its even got polished tips ..cant use tail pipes with a anti-roll bar...bad investment on my part lol

Say the muffler bearings are bad and the O pipe isn't going to recirculate the exhaust gases back into the intake the way it should

if you really don't wanna listen to your parents and take a chance in having them sell your car... tell them you need a new H/X-pipe for Emissions reasons, then buy what you want... BUT, when you swap that out, swap out the mufflers at the same time, that way when the sound changes, you can blame it ALL on the midpipe and the cats, as the reason for the totally different sound.
I don't know about your dad and mom, but i could have changed everything under the car... I could have put a damn wheelie bar on the car and they would't have known the difference, other than i had something on it... it all depends on how much your parents know about cars...

I'd say learn to respect your parents wishes as long as you are not self supporting in everyway. Part of the perks to being an adult is getting to spend your money as you wish. Doesn't sound like you are there yet, so you don't get to. The car may be paid for but WHO paid? was it 100% you? You don't have to understand why they think as they do, you just need to accept that authority, they are your parents.

You can present your case with your desires in a reasonable fashion but if they make a final decision to say no, that's it! It is a sign of maturity to be able to accept setbacks & delays in life, to not to make a federal case out of having a want (not a necessity) denied or delayed. That is life & it will be the same when you are an adult! Just because you really want it you won't be able to just go get it! Gotta pay the rent first & food & gas & utilities & ....you get the picture.

To be sneaky & underhanded in attempting to thwart your parents decisions reveals lots about your character! The little decisions you make in everyday life shape who you are. Always be proud to look at that person in the mirror!
