Ignition Coil Pack question

Hey dudes,

I recently had, what I consider, a heat issue with my car. Obviously my car is highly modified for a V6, but I had been driving it out of town for about two hours (with my wife...), hot day A/C on, going up a series of long slow hill climbs (high rpm). Once I got out of the hills the engine died (shut off) while driving. If I let the car rest for a 10 minutes or so it would start up, run fine for a short time, then shut down again. It sat overnight. Ran it back home the next day on a cool morning, never have had a problem since.

Now this worries me. I don't want this to happen again, but how do I recreate the scenario? My thoughts may be the ignition coil just got to hot and shut down, killing the motor.

I researched what aftermarket coils are available. And of course, not much in the V6 world. Accel has a Coil pack and Jegs have a coil pack. Would anyone know if one is better than the other. Obviously I want something that can withstand excessive heat. At least are either of those more efficient than the stock coil? Stupid question, I know...

I really don't want to relocate the coil to another part of the car, so in the engine it stays.

Opinions?

lots of highly modded V6's keep the stock coil pack. not really any better ones than an OEM Motorcraft

it's not overheating? (engine temp)

Maybe... Let say the motor overheated, what would simply shut the the engine off? The CPU? Obviously I have never dealt with this issue. Sorry for the ignorance.

the only time my car overheated, nothing happened and i saw the temp gauge in Red, not sure how long it was like that. but it didnt turn off.

however, when my alternator went, the car started stalling and right beforehand, a loud beeping warning sound came from the dash then stalled. any noises? any loose wires that may be rubbing into a hot surface?

i dont know why the coil pack would get any hotter than any other V6 mustang in a warm climate state.

im perplexed right now...
