I'd say SS. They're pretty stout and easily modded. Here's my buddies '94 SS.

I loved my Roadie wagon and 9c1.LT1 cars are fun to drive.Only one reason I would never buy one again.Optispark. Plus plug and wire changes blow major ass to.As old as the B body cars are I would go with the Merc.If you can afford it. LT1 parts are prob not that much cheaper depending on what you want. Also getting harder to find on some things.I don't know what year the Marauder came out but the LT1 9c1's are 94-96.By the time you fix up one the way you want you could of bought the merc. and just drove it.Thats just my opinion tho.Since I have had to lt1 cars. But in turn I have never owned a mod motor car besides a 98 F150.

The Marauder wouldn't stay stock either. A rotating assembly for the Chevy, 900 dollar's. For the Marauder, 1500. Head's for the Chevy, 1700 bucks. For the Marauder, about 2k. Cam for the Chevy, 200. For the Mercury, 1200.

And by the time I fix the Chevy up, it will still be mine, lol. As opposed to the Mercury, which I would do all that too, or just strap a blower to, 4k, and still stretch to make payment's.

I found a Caprice with the LT1 option, and a nifty yellow bugshield, for 4k with absolutely no rust and 88k on the clock. It's actually three blocks from my house, the older people who owned it passed and their kid's need to get rid of it. They said they would hold it for me (I'm doing some HVAC work on the house) until the end of Feb, so I think I'll be going that route.

That sounds like a nice find.Low enough miles to to be a good DD till you tear into it.Thats why I sold my wagon after I bought my stang.Couldn't afford to mod. 2 cars. my stang and our bikes is why I bought a $300 hunk of shit.Im not tempted to mod a 83 Merc zephyr.Plus it has fought 2 vans this winter and won.

Lol, isn't the Zephyr Fox based? I've always wanted a different Fox, like a Fairmont wagon.

Yeah, this car is a creampuff, at least bodywise, I'm kinda concerned about the motor actually. I think it sat for several year's when they moved to FLA full time. I wish I could just do that, leave a whole friggen house, oh wait I did do that.

It's probably gonna be a Chevy, I can rebuild the trans in my sleep, and even an engine rebuild is dirt friggen cheap. I wouldn't be putting more than 3k into the Chevy, still less than the Marauder. Either way it's gonna get modded, so I may as well start cheaper, since I'm throwing everything away anyway.

even though i think marauders are the shiz-net, the ss or v8 caprices are pretty sweet. there is a guy around here
who has one with 22's on it and is custom fabbing a turbo kit for it. but then again i had a kenne bell marauder fly by me
a while a go, and i had to change my underwear because of it........... twice!

seems like you've made up your mind, but spacemonkey "roadie" reminds me of a cool option -the caprice wagons! I love those things, and there are some guys doing some sick sh!t with 'em too. Bagged on 18" steelies (wheel vintiques has 'em, and I'm sure there are others...), completely shaved would be gorgeous. Then do flames or wood panelling (kind of a neo-surf wagon style) and it'd be a killer lead sled.

Reading up on it, I'm seeing that Marauder's run slower through the 1/4 than CVPI's stock, lol. Damn mod motor's.

Yeah because in stock form the Marauder comes with a crappy final-drive and torque-converter. Most Marauder guys from what I've seen go for a more aggressive TC, 3.73's or 4.10's, and a good tune. I'm pretty sure a stock Marauder is about on par with the Mark VIII.

id say maurader but i just like the way it is styled(enterior/engine/exterior) plus an officer at my PD has one and it looks so
aggressive. but, i have to admit it would be MUCH cheaper to build a GM.
