apologize in advance, i did a search but could not find the info i needed...

I picked up a used MSD 6A, Part # 6200 and a 5" Autometer Tach (also used) today and want to install it. Neither have instructions.

I have installed a tach before but have zero experience with MSD ignition boxes. I noticed (and stumbled across this during the search) the box has a tach output plug. Do i need a tach adapter for my tach to function correctly with this ignition?

my flame suit is on so go ahead and show me all the threads you found during your search so i too can use them.

if you are going to skip the "uneducated mechanic in training" bashing, then i greatly appreciate the help.

thanks fellas!

Rob, that tach connection on the msd box is a good source to connect your tach to, but I've been told that better readings come from the coil wire, which is how mine is connected.

Did you look into that harness adapter for the box over on summit? Best way to go, IMO.

It's been a while since I connected my tach so I won't lie to you and tell you where the cables go, but when I get home, we'll take a look at my set-up an then we'll just connect yours. Cool?

I mounted it under my air filter. After I move my battery to the trunk, I'm gonna set it there. I've seen other mount it on the firewall.

If you want it away from all the heat and vibration and such, just mount it under your passenger seat. That's where mine is, and it works famously.
