any bends make turbulence period slowing the air thus affect fuel ratio. whether the maf reads air after its slowed or before. i really dont see big differences with the maf being relocated. plus it needs to be re calibrated if moved to a different location right? could be wrong. either way its illegal for me to move it and since shes my dd and my transportation for my kid i need it to be legit. the random roadside checks are a new smog thing. they can set up road side stations where a whole lane of traffic has to pull over and be inspected and even put on a sniffer and other similar bs. majority of it leads to fix it tickets but if when they hit the ground and your catless they can take your ride and then pull the license of the smog tech who last smoged the ride.

you are regurgitating information that you read on the internet from an unqualified source to begin with.

as air passes around a corner, the air on the outside of the corner speeds up. having a bend immediately pre-MAF is a bad idea because of these rapid changes in speed across the sensor. bends post-maf do have the same result in terms of speeding up some of the air and not the other and are not desirable, however not nearly as traumatic and have no effect on air/fuel ratio. all that air is going to bottleneck in the intake manifold and be sitting there waiting behind the intake valve face anyhow; as long as it's all metered correctly, it matters very little the past post-MAF.

the MAF does not need to be altered in any way if it is relocated to the filter unless you were tuned for a BBK style intake and now are tuning for a properly set up system. how do the authorities know the stock location of the MAF? if they are this stringent, do they not have a problem with the BBK CAI?

Louder as in the same sound it would make before just at a louder volume. I don't think it's turbulence??? I'm not regurgitating anyone elses info just theroizing on my own. I would relocate the maf but it would require a lot more fabing or a new cai. The reason I can't move the maf isn't the authorities it's a smog shop or a roadside check which has smog techs doing the inspections. The reason the authorities can't sweat me on the bbk is because it has a 50 state legal arb number. The plan is to eventually go H/C/I and run that digital maf by akebono? I dunno if thats spelled right and a 75mm throttle body.

Here's another pic through the fog light hole in the bumper. Lighting sucks but you can see the filter.

I think its a nice custom fab just but I don't think it'll do anything for you performance wise. The air in the fender is already cooler than the engine bay, moving it lower isn't going to change anything.
