Well im tired of having my pony sitting around and i was planning on moving forward with full bolt ons and buying brand new parts but some things have come up. Im going to a local pull a part and im going to try and get a pi manifold from there for the time being. If i cant find a 99-04 pony with one is there any other cars that may have one that i should look for?

Found an 04 marque with one it was the only car in the whole yard with one still on it it's in pretty good condition from what I can see just needs a lil bit of cleaning up and for $40 I could pass it up! Also found a dorman that appears to be brand new so i went ahead and got that as well and will be using it for the time being and I'll install the pi mani later on when I tear the heads off. Anybody have any info on these dormans are they any good on npi heads? I've read mixed reviews

Im sure they’d be ok with npi heads but the effort isnt worth it imo. Theyre still going to need to be rtv’d and carefully installed to prevent coolant from getting into the intake ports like a pi intake swap but you will likely gain nothing. The plenum volume is puny when compared to a pi intake. Ive never seen one next to an npi intake so take this with a grain of salt but Id imagine the dorman is probably about the same. So in essence you would be swapping to an intake with the same plenum volume but misaligned intake ports so you gain nothing and have to do extra work to make it fit. Not worth it.

Unless the dorman you found is for npi heads but then I would still skip it.

Like 07gts197 stated, the dorman will be a pain to align if the dorman is a pi intake going on npi heads. Give it a shot, youll never know untill you try. But if you have an intake that requires seperate gaskets, i would attempt using it first.

I pulled the dorman off of a 97 gt and it looked like it was put on recently but I don't know for sure and all the other 96-98 2vs there had dormans on them as well also the ports on the dorman and my old Mani look very similar size wise

make sure the intake has the aluminum crossover in front, not plastic. I have not verified it, but on other forums over the years, people have claimed that just switching to the pi intake gave them more increase percentage wise, than doing the pi heads too. in other words, the most increase came from the intake, not the heads.

Well I cleaned everything up slapped on the dorman intake with no issue and she fired right up. Buttt.... old girls heart didn't sound too good :/ it just didn't have any power and I heard what sounded like a slight knock for a bit but it went away. The oil pressure is good it has oil but the low oil light is on now and it wasn't before? No vacume leaks or anything like that so I really dk what the probably good be other than the motor on its last leg.will be going at it again tomorrow but I won't hesitate to yank it out and go ahead and slap a pi engine in lol
