Hi folks!

I'm a new mustang owner but a long time "enthusiast". At 6yrs old I built my first model car. A crystal white 97 cobra with a tan vert. Fast forward 21yrs and I've bought my first stang. A rio red 97 cobra with a tan vert. I bought it from the original owner who is in his mid 70s. I wasn't looking to get a convertible but it belonged to his late wife, had only 103k miles, the top was new, the clutch was new, and besides cobra r rims it was bone stock and this is the longest sentence ever...

It's still bone stock, is my daily driver and my daughter loves it too. I want to get a full exhaust but can NOT figure out what I want to go with. If borla had a cat back for my car I'd do that in a heartbeat, but they don't. I may get a short throw with positive stops as well. Being my daily I don't want to go crazy. Plus I have a soft spot for oem cars.

Anyways, long windedness aside, I look forward to stealing all of your ideas and putting your cars in my spank bank.

Welcome! Let's see some pics ASAP

Real soon I promise, tapatalk and my phone are fighting.

wh...wha?

You know, that picture gallery you keep for your "alone time"

I am a firm believer in MGW shifters, especially for a daily.

I've heard that a lot. SUPPOSEDLY, I am about to receive a Steeda for free. I've heard they wear out pretty fast but free is free until I wrangle the cash for an MGW.

Here's a couple. So first off, notice I'm missing the reflective bit in the bumper. Anyone know it's name so I can snatch a new one?

Second is my daughter just randomly walking up and leaning on the car. She loves it. A natural model. [emoji7]
Edit: The pictures are different days. I don't drive around with half my car cleaned. Lol

Looks good. Steeda shifters a great so if you're getting one for free that's even better. MGW is nice but the Steeda Tri-Ax has great reviews as well and is what I ordered for my car today. I have the same T45 transmission as you do and man do the stock shifters suck so bad.

Considering how much higher Cobras rev, I can't imagine trying to slam gears in that thing. When you swap out the shifter make sure to use a new pivot cup as well, they're cheap to replace and take only a few extra seconds.

So those are actually 1998 cobra wheels. They have the grooves between the spokes. Pretty dang identical otherwise. The car looks great! I just replaced that reflector in my car I'll have to find it again to remember what they call it.

The Tri-Ax is actually the one I'm supposed to be getting. After the guy offered it up and I accepted he suddenly can't find it. So we'll see how that ends up lol. It can get pretty rough slamming through the gears. Especially if I wind it up to 6800 but it's fun!

Thanks lutter! I always thought they were cobra r's. No wonder that reflector is still missing. 70 bucks is insane for a single one.

Just go to a boneyard for the reflector. As I recall they are kind of a pain to get to, but it will only be a couple bucks that way.

The tri-ax feels a lot more notchy than the MGW, but they are still good.

My favorites in order:

MGW
Pro 5.0
American Muscle Brand (forgot what it was)
Steeda

I have tried a few others but cannot remember them now. They did not really stack up to the competition.

I don't know how to explain it. Ratchety perhaps? The stock shifter feels super sloppy, the MGW feels smooth but firm. I feel like it takes more effort with a Tri-Ax if that makes sense?

I looked for quite a while to find a cat-back for my '04. I went with one from Steeda, which is made by Borla. Perfect!

Nice Cobra. What noise level are you willing to have on your replacement cat back exhaust?

I bought a PG 97 Cobra last year that had the mufflers deleted and replaced with stainless pipe. All of the cats are in place. To my ears, it sounds great and is actually quiet enough to hold a conversation in the car if you are just cruising.

Great looking car, looks like it was well taken care of. That'll be a great 16th birthday present for your kid

I'm trying to keep the level low. I don't mind it loud on the outside but I don't want to be too aggressive inside.

I've found a flowmaster 40 cat back for 100 bucks and installed it for now. It's not the worst, not the best, but man it took getting used too. It drones at so many different RPM.
