It will fit!! You have to drill a few holes for the rear subframe mounts. You also have to adapt your brake lines to the IRS lines. You either need the driveshaft from the 01 or a hybrid u-joint. You'll need the springs, shocks and exhaust from the '01. That's the short answer.

Its easy get all the hardware from the irs..you have to make new brake hard lines.
Drill some holes for the subframe.. Every thing else just bolts on. You won't reuse anything from your staight axle..

You have to routine a few gaps for the back sub frame installs. You also have to evolve your braking mechanism collections to the IRS collections. You either need the drive shaft from the 01 or a multiple u-joint. You'll need the rises, excitement and fatigue from the '01. That's the brief response.

Do you plan on leaving the IRS stock or are you planning on changing the IRS suspension bushings? What are goals for the car?

I have the Moog 448 in a box for my swap, just have to find an IRS pinion yoke. Thinking about installing my IRS with the oem bushing (except the F&R differential mounts) until I can sell my 8.8 to fund the rest of the bushing kit.

Thank you all for the help. As plans for the the car to make a better driving and handling car, the roads where I live suck, so I figure if I do the irs swap would ride better. I do plan on upgrading all the bushings and putting new axle shafts in while it is out along with the bearings. I can get every thing to swap beside bushings, axles, and bearings for 300( rear end, springs, drive shaft). Is there a difference in the 99-02 irs and the 03-04 irs? I know the axle shafts are different.

The diff/axles on the 99/01 units are 28 spline rather than the 03/04's 31 spline, I replied to your pm

Look into the Full Tilt Boogie Racing bushing kit also, I have everything they make for the IRS and the quality is top notch.

If you are looking for a better ride, the factory rubber will be the best bushing choice, especially if you drive on crappy roads. The 2003-2004 Cobra IRS factory rubber bushings are 400% stiffer than then the 99-01 versions. Poly bushings will be a lot stiffer than the factory rubber and it would be the stiffest bushing I would run on the street. I would advise to stay away from delrin and aluminum bushings and mounts for your IRS as you mention that you want a good ride as the delrin and aluminium come with a significant penalty in ride quality, especially on rods that suck.

Is there a difference in the 99-02 irs and the 03-04 irs? I know the axle shafts are different.

As mentiond, the 03-04 IRS has rubber bushings that are 400% stiffer than the 99-01 versions

Other 03-04 improvements:

1. inner tie rod mount was lowered to reduce roll understeer.
2. sway bar has higher grade steel ends.
3. stronger ball joint races.
4. tubular cross brace with extra mounts for the differential center section.
5. stronger axle shafts than the 99-01 versions

In short, id would be advisable to get a 03-04 IRS set up as that would allow you to leave the factory bushings alone if you wanted too while still getting a significant handling improvement. Some people change the IRS bushings to try and solve wheel hop issues and rear end sway conditions , but none of those problems are caused by the IRS bushings.
