Thank you all for the help. As plans for the the car to make a better driving and handling car, the roads where I live suck, so I figure if I do the irs swap would ride better. I do plan on upgrading all the bushings
If you are looking for a better ride, the factory rubber will be the best bushing choice, especially if you drive on crappy roads. The 2003-2004 Cobra IRS factory rubber bushings are 400% stiffer than then the 99-01 versions. Poly bushings will be a lot stiffer than the factory rubber and it would be the stiffest bushing I would run on the street. I would advise to stay away from delrin and aluminum bushings and mounts for your IRS as you mention that you want a good ride as the delrin and aluminium come with a significant penalty in ride quality, especially on rods that suck.
Is there a difference in the 99-02 irs and the 03-04 irs? I know the axle shafts are different.
As mentiond, the 03-04 IRS has rubber bushings that are 400% stiffer than the 99-01 versions
Other 03-04 improvements:
1. inner tie rod mount was lowered to reduce roll understeer.
2. sway bar has higher grade steel ends.
3. stronger ball joint races.
4. tubular cross brace with extra mounts for the differential center section.
5. stronger axle shafts than the 99-01 versions
In short, id would be advisable to get a 03-04 IRS set up as that would allow you to leave the factory bushings alone if you wanted too while still getting a significant handling improvement. Some people change the IRS bushings to try and solve wheel hop issues and rear end sway conditions , but none of those problems are caused by the IRS bushings.
