is manually shifting an auto necessarily dangerous?

I'd take the $200 and start getting the T5 conversion parts.

the best way to learn stick is to drive while in traffic on a green light, because when you die all the people behind you will be honking

Depends, the 4r70w are electronically controlled so downshifting is fine.....when you drop the shifter down in 2nd or something it still has to go through the computer and make sure everything is ok for the shift.

I downshift and hold gears with mine everytime I drive it.

The older AODEs werent electronically controlled so downshifting with them may not be such a good idea.

Tell me about it. I took my 1st 5 speed out (stang) during rush hour traffic on the streets with THE VERT TOP down!! I stalled so much that even school buses were blowing at me =[ I wanted to sale the stang after that.

^ Bahaha,
I remember when I had my first stick shift car. It was my 1989 Mustang GT and I remember my Mom tell our friend at the time to take me to a parking lot and teach me how to drive. So he drove to the parking lot switched seats and said "Alright show me what you know so far"
So by that time I pushed the clutch in, put it into 1st and slowly took off and immediately picked up on it, he then said "What the hell, you know how to drive a stick shift, take me back to the house you don't need a lesson". haha won't forget that day.

Hahaha my first driving experience was in the parking lot of a church. No exciting stories though

I stalled about 20 times the first time i drove stick. Then about 10 the next time. By the third time I was gold

But don't even get my started on taking off on a hill. That ruined the experience for me at first lol

I bought my current cobra never having driven a stick. I had to take a buddy that could drive stick with me to Florida from Georgia to buy the car and he test drove it and drove it home. He would come over pick up me and my cobra and drive us to a parking lot and taught me to drive stick. My car isn't exactly the easiest car to learn on, but I only stalled out twice on the street. My buddy also had never driven anything faster than a stock g35 so the trip home from Florida was terrifying/fun because the lying dbag that sold me the car told me the tires were fine on the phone, but we saw a huge burnout marks in his apartment lot and they were toast when we got there. We were sideways from FL(Kissimmee) to Marietta GA ahaha. Good crazy memories
