We just replaced the brakes on the car. Its a 2006 Suzuki Grand Vivtra. 2.7L.
Every time we use the brakes hard we get a loud screech from what sounds like the front right side of the car. We took it back to the shop and asked what the problem was.
They told us both side inner and outter tie rods need to be replaced.

Quotes:

170 for parts 1 side
170 for parts the other side.

+ Labor.
Thats pretty much $400.

Is this correct for getting both the inner and outter done on each side? Im sure they need replacing but would this cause a screeching sound when braking hard? It only does it once you get to about 5-10 mph from a high speed when braking hard.

THanks

but did they turn the rotors? I had new brakes put on one time and got just out of the lot before I turned around and complained about the noise.

Were taking it to Midas for a free inspection to see what the heck is up.
New rotor and pads on both front sides.

tie rod ends should not make a noise, sometimes new pads and rotors do make noise if they do not match up well, while breaking in. something may be rubbing

Not uncommon for new breaks to make noise.

if it only does it right before you come to a stop like you describe (15mph and under) its one of 2 things.

1: technician did not lubricate the pad contact points on the caliper bracket, this lubricant dampens the pad vibrations that cause alot of noises associated with brakes. this problem is less evident at higher speeds.

2: the brake pads just arent worth a crap... i do literally hundreds of brake jobs a month, i would say 3-4 times a month i get a set of pads that just want to make noise, swapping in another set of identical pads gets rid of all the problems in this case.

all this is assuming the pads are high quality pads and not just duralast or some other store brand stuff. any clue what pads were used?

Well, i took it to another shop. Here the verdict:

1. Cheap pads
2. Warped Rotor (wtf how could this happen on a 2 week old new rotor?)
3. Stuck/frozen caliper.

4. Trying to rip me off saying its the tie rods.

A stuck caliper will wipe out a cheap rotor in no time. Trust me it happens all the time with aftermarket autozone type rotors

Well, shouldn't they check that before adding all the new stuff? Im going to have my neighbor unstickthe calipers with a torch. The rotor and brake pads have a 1 year warranty. So im going back up there.

Yes no doubt it should have been checked and they should have known if the caliper was sticking when they pushed the caliper piston back in the caliper

i think you are talking about the caliper SLIDE being stuck. if the caliper were froze up you'd be replacing the caliper.

unstick the slide, resurface the rotors and replace the pads.... basically another complete "correctly" done brake job since all that is part of a "basic" brake job.
