Question:

Are there any known aluminum pulleys that swap onto the H.O. 5.0 that were originally on a different model from the factory?

I ask because I would like aluminum pulleys and assumed since there are many odd parts out there that swap, someone might have discovered some.

the only aluminum pullies you can get are underdrive pullies. I don't recommend those if you do a lot of city driving but as he said if you have a steel or an aluminum pulley on the car as long as they are the same size it doesn't matter. You can buy some really expensive polished pulleys on jegs I think it is but they are really proud of them = $$$$

I just assumed they may be lighter. I vaguely recall people reporting small gains from pulley swaps.

Note: "assumed"

Feel free to school me on pullies.

Gains so small it's a waste of time and money ... I have under driven aluminum pullies .... They only really do anything on the 4.6 mustangs I'm not sure with the new coyote ... If you wanna do anything run a short belt eliminating a/c and smog pump

I have heard that during dyno testing that underdrive pullies can add a few hp but it isn't something that you will install and then see a drop in your 1/4mile time or feel the difference. The other problem with UDP's is that they slow down your alt. This increases the load on it and make it create more heat but the fan that is attached to it is spinning slower so that it can't cool itself if it were operating normally let alone under load where it creates more heat. If you do a lot of highway driving it should not be a problem as its still spinning fast enough to cool but if you do highway driving there is a good chance you will cook your alt in a year or two.

I still disagree with you guys on the pulleys. They add hp, period. Their bad rep is just something everyone parrots without validity IMO.

They do slow down the alternator and ca cause charging issues. If you have 1000 lbs of stereo stuff, don't do it. At least the alternator pulley anyway.

BBKs are aluminum pulleys, but you'll maybe get ounces of gains. If you want to reduce rotational mass, get a light flywheel.

I said that they will add hp and its been proven on dyno but we are not talking major gains or enough for me to justify the time/money and the possibility of burning up your alt. As you said it does cause charging issues and it doesn't matter if you have a big stereo or not you will still see your lights dimming at stoplights. As I said above that is a double negative when it creates more heat and at the same time reduces its ability to cool itself enough. The only alternator I ever burned up in 20 yrs of driving happened to be 6 months after my UDP install and yes that could just be coincidence but I know of 3 other people that will tell a similar story. Now this was while I was doing a lot of city driving and why I said that if you are on the highway a lot where it is up at its normal operating speed it should not be a problem.

Very interesting. I don't even have a clock installed, so I predict very minimal charging issues in my future.

If there are any JY solutions, it might just be worth MY time and money (Mine is worth less than most others). I will not be on the street as its registered non-op.

Never seen JY solution before took me a minute ? Why would you be worried about being registered and non-operational?
