I typically get frustrated at threads like this, but I am looking for some real advice. I was nearing the completion of my build FINALLY. All I needed from the mechanic was to finish a vacuum hose or two and put the tune on the car. He was still encountering a little fuel issue so he decided to do a spark/fuel/compression test. Well everything check out except cyl 5, compression test only resulted in 80 psi, opposed to the 160/180 on the others. He added to the cylinder and redid the test and it went up, which leads me to believe it is a piston ring. There is no way I could afford to have him do all the labor, but at this point I am burnt out on the car and all the work. It is still going to cost money obviously to get the piston rings replaced, but I still have little to no desire to break this motor down AGAIN.
So heres where my options are... I could break it all down and bring the motor for a little rebuild, which I truly dont want to do at this point. Other one being to part this car out. So do I suck it up and break it down again or do I part it out. How much can be made from parting the car out?? Thanks for reading and hopefully someone can help me out. Thanks.

I say fix it.

I know its really easy to get burnt out, especially after all the work you've put in, but keep going man. You know it'll be worth it once you're able to start cruising in it.

HAHAHAHA :laughing4: This is going in my sig. Anyway, fix that biatch, after all the work blood sweat and tears that went into the build, you're going to be really upset with yourself down the road if you get rid of her. I say break it down yourself then just bring him the short block and get all the rings and seals replaced while its there.

yea, wtf? just talk him outa there... he'll give up eventually...

I dont know man... means I have to learn Chinese first, I already have enough to do with this engine, haha. But for real, this thread was definitely helpful, need a little kick in the pants sometimes.

Any body have any idea how much something like that would cost (rings)?

Rings arent the expensive part, its the labor. Why not get a clean used explorer engine, sell the heads, intake etc. and get your $$ back? I just built mine, and i gained money from utilizing the short block only.

Explorer engine- complete- -$425 SHIPPED (www.car-part.comhttp://http://) 180x8 comp. 89xxx miles
+$300 for heads
+$150 for intake set
+$50 for miss. explorer parts
_______
+$75

I think you should stay on it. From your build thread, I'd say you put too much work into the car to let it go now.

Parting a car can be a PITA, I've done so(still doing so actually.) You have to deal with people wanting to buy parts or asking/answering lots of questions.

The car is complete, and a PI motor can be had for cheap these days so i think you can get it on the road with minimal costs if you choose to..

JMO of course...

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
