Leaky oil temp sending unit

Noticed a decent enough amount of oil dribble on the underside of the oil pan that’s coming from the oil temp sending unit. Any ideas/helpful suggestions on how to fix??

It’s hard to tell exactly where it’s coming from but if it’s the threads, put some teflon tape around the threads and send it.

I don't believe that's stock, 5.0's typically have a drain plug there. To my knowledge neither GT nor Cobra had an oil temperature gauge just the low oil sender on the side of the pan and the oil pressure switch by the filter.

If that was my car I'd just remove it and put a drain plug back in there - especially on a Cobra that came from the factory with a heat exchanger for the oil there's no way you could make oil temp a concern on public roads while staying outta jail

Looks like you might have a coolant leak too. And if you look closely you can see a dribble of oil north of that port, like it's leaking down from somewhere higher and collecting where you think it's leaking. Maybe take another look around with a bright light.

Just replaced a hose, so might just be slop from that but I’ll definitely check it out.

Pulled the whole temp sensor unit out. Completely took it apart. Wire brushed the thread tape off the sensor and the female whatchamacallit that screws into the oil pan itself. Cleaned, dried, re-taped the whatchamacallit, applied thread sealant (only, no tape) to the threads on the sensor and tightened it all back down quite snug. Will take it for the 3rd time tomorrow after work. Fingers crossed I pass smog

Had enough f’g around with the oil temp sending unit and reinstalled the OE plug. Glad I kept and labeled it!
