Anyone know of a v6 coil that will be better than the OEM type coils?

All my car problems seem to revolve around the coil. I end up just swapping between two OEM style coils. I know the coil seems to be a common problem on the v6s.

I see that AM offers 3 different coils.

Msd

Anyone figure that any of these will be better than the OEM style?

I'd say if you're set on going aftermarket, then I'd go with the MSD. Right now it's on sale for 79.00 and in stock, The Accel is cool looking, but out of stock. IIRC you've been switching between 2 different stock ones with issues (It may have been someone else). Getting aftermarket good one should solve these problems.

I know v6 and v8 are different but they both have coils... When i upgraded to a MSD Distributor my stock coil melted. I went MSD Coil and had no problems.

I had issues with the coil on my 99 sixer when I had it. I know it's a common issue. I think I went through 3 or 4 before I found one that worked well. I'm a bit of an accel fan boy. I run their coils in my cobra and love them. If you want to buy it, use a coupon code because $99 is still a bit steep IMO. PM me if you don't have a code already.

Near the blower. It might be getting hot from the blower.... but it did this before the blower in the stock location.

And if the coils are getting cooked, why do they seem to be okay after sitting for awhile?

Yeah, my dad had the same theory about the blower.
But won't they cool off sitting over night?

I dunno, I've always been convinced its the shitty oem ones.
I think I'll order an aftermarket one in the spring so I can rule that out at least.

I know that its not the primary connection, that went one night... not fun. That that threw a code and it was rewired.

Back to life thread!

Anyone else have any recommendation to brand for coil?

I know msd is sort of a standard, but I keep hearing negatives from time to time.

I believe the MSD issues were with the timing boxes. Not with the coils or dizzy's.
MSD, Accel, Mallery. Which ever one you choose make sure you get a lifetime warrenty. Aslo step up to a higher voltage. 45,000v is the highest I've seen for the 5.0

Accel has been around a LONG time.
good brand?

What was the code number?
Dont rule out spark plugs and the wires. Ive had brand new spark plugs out of the box with hairline cracks in the porcelain cause miss fire issues.

I've replaced my spark plugs and the problem continued. I don't remember the exact code, I looked it up and it came up as some sort of miss.
If it was the spark plug wires, wouldn't it happen much more regularly?

Regardless I'll likely be replacing my wires so they're all the same set. The set I bought was wrong, probably need 2000 v6 mustang for the length I need. 1 wire was too short. They wouldn't let me return them and you can't order a single wire. Really annoying.

I've got Accel's on my 4.6 and my buddy has an MSD on his 5.0 - neither of us have any problems.
You just never know with electrical parts sometimes there fine and other times you get a P.O.S.
