since it's my parents car, I've pretty much gotten them broken down to letting me get exhaust. I promised them that it wouldn't be loud and sound terrible and that for real I wanted one that sounded really good and isn't massively loud. I had my friend come over with his truck to show them that mine wouldn't even be as loud as his and they thought his was a little loud but reasonable... 1 highflow cat and glasspacks... so they're thinking about it

but the question is to cat or not to cat.

I've decided on a bassani midpipe with a magnaflow muffler (keeping stock catback piping cause my tips are clean as f**k and look good. I need to find out which magnaflow muffler comes in the catback tho.

so far the only reasons i'm thinking about getting cats is to pass inspection and quiet it down a little bit but It's hard to tell online.

i'll keep my stock midpipe but idk if my cats will stay good forever lol should i get mils? won't that tell comp a/f ratio is perfect and won't throw a code if something actually goes wrong?

Re: ANOTHER EXHAUST THREAD FOR ME!!

You need to get a Full Catback... thats where the Performance Gains Happens.

Your stock Pipes are 2.25 inches and are Compression Bent which is not smooth bends. The way to get power is to swap the whole exhaust for 2.5inch Mandrel Bent exhaust. Any Midpipe is 2.5 Mandrel.... But just welding mufflers kinda defeats the purpose of getting a 2.5 inch midpipe.

I would say get the UPR/Pypes Midpipe (Best Bang for the Buck at Under $200) and get either a Flowmaster Catback or Magnaflow Catback (Both are very well priced.

.....and if your gonna do a Midpipe just go Cat-less..... If you wanna pass inspection just swap pipes

Re: ANOTHER EXHAUST THREAD FOR ME!!

I'm def getting bassani lol im stuck on that.

I know what you mean on catback but i just don't like the way the magnaflow tips are, you can see where they welded the tips on and it looks cheap and shitty. I wish i could get a mandrel bent one with a really long tip that end where the stock one does. I like the way the flowmaster tips are cause they look stock and go back really far like stock.

thats pretty much the ONLY Reason i bought the American Thunder Flowmaster Catback was because of the Tips. The Tips look OEM but Bigger and look so Perfect.... i HATE straight cut magnaflow Tips

....Bassani X+Flowmaster Catback=SEX

there is Nothing CHEAP about Flowmasters.... they are a quality Product with Many Imitations on the Market.

The reason the Flowmaster Catback costs less then a Magnaflow or Borla is because those companies use a Higher Quality Stainless Steel to make there product, that is all.

IMO, its a waste of Money to Buy a Polished 400+Series Stainless steel exhaust because nobody sees under the car anyways..... Plus unless you live somewhere with MAJOT salt on the road from Snow then its not needed.

Re: ANOTHER EXHAUST THREAD FOR ME!!

I don't want it to be too loud tho since no cats, will it really make that much of a difference in sound compared to cats?

still deciding on mufflers.

The rear sensors (where the MILS go) only make sure the cats are working properly. They don't hinder the performance of the car at all.

My EXACT goal was to be able to run No cats and still have it quite enough to drive on the street.

My set Up (UPR O/R X+Flowmaster A/T Catback) is perfect. its not even close to LOUD... But loud enough to where it will set a car alarm off.

When i go to mustang Get-togethers there are people there running Cats and other mufflers and there sets up are louder than mine.

thank you :happydrunks:

it's gonna be an o/r x pipe DEFINITELY... it's decided... i like flowmaster but im just not convinced...I'm HEAVILY leaning towards mangnaflow catback but I don't think I can afford the whole catback right now, Do you think it would sound ok with an o/r x and a stock catback for a while?

offroad mid is gonna be louder than you think, i love mine but your parents will hate yours, lol. but hell, there is a reason i run a UPR o/r x with dumped LM1's... :hammer: i am the neighborhoods alarm pretty much. i leave for work at 6:50 so just in time to get them up, lol

That the problem with LM1's...they are NEVER quiet.

I REALLY like my Flowmasters because when i want loud they SCREAM...and when i wanna hide they are silent

is it gonna be ALOT louder than if i bought one catted? I've been looking at a vid of a 99 gt online with a o/r bassani and magnaflow catback and it sounds pretty tame at idle not loud at all but when he layedinto it it sounded really good, judging by the second video is where i kinda got idle/ driveability

Re: ANOTHER EXHAUST THREAD FOR ME!!

i dont think that the o/r x would be too loud for you. as long as you dont let her rip in front of your parents youll be fine. mine isnt that loud at idle even with dumped LM1's. ill post up a vid for you...

not bad, i thought it would sound alot different for being slp and o/r mid dumped lol, but i actually like it (even with the lack of tone :p :hammer: j/k)

it gives me hope when you say your dumped lm with o/r x pipe isn't that loud at idle lol

*scratches head* The gains are in the midpipe. 4 cats and 2 resonators..... :dunno: seems like alot of restriction to me :dunno:

Welding mufflers in place of stock mufflers DOES NOT defeat the purpose of an aftermarket midpipe. :slap:

Basically, if you don't know, besides costs reasons; the purpose of the 2.25" exhaust is for low end tq. The bigger that exhaust gets the more low end grunt you lose. :thumb:

Re: ANOTHER EXHAUST THREAD FOR ME!!

Catbacks give you dick for power, go spend the 400 bucks on a good hooker if you want to get fucked.

The mid pipe is where you get power on a stock or near stock car.

Or you could just get a vroom box and sound cool when you want to, and be quiet when you don't/

Re: ANOTHER EXHAUST THREAD FOR ME!!

ANd sound clips can be misleading on the internet... I thought LM1's weren't that loud, but they are. Have Jerry put up a vid of his car starting... That emmits a loud bark that WILL set off car alarms.

Aaron actually has a vid of his car with a stock catback and offroad mid pipe, sounds pretty good to me.
