Since you are new to machine polishing i would recommend a Porter-Cable 7424. You can find them cheap used. I bought mine for $40 off Craigslist and just replaced the power cord.

They have a new Porter-Cable out called the 7424XP..... its more powerful and has better ergonomics. They got for around $100 new...... if you wanna buy brand new, thats the one to get.

agreed. you want an orbital.

a rotary will cause friction and can burn the paint off if you don't do it right.
The PC is a great starting tool, and you can do paint correction, polish and final with it.

Which set of pads should i pick up when getting this Porter Cable ??? Also what would be a good set of chemicals/ compounds. I figure all of this should set me back somewhere around 300 to get started and i will pick up stuff as i go along
