Looking for Cam Advice

Okay before you ask, yes i have searched and searched... I recently just picked up a set of GT40 Xheads and the matching 1.6 FRPP roller rockers, i also have a trick flow upper and lower intake and my bottom end is stock and i plan to keep it that way just cause i dont want to have to deal with it... what is a good cam to use with that set up that wont give me PTV clearance issues and will still be a good street car...??? thanks

If you are keeping NA go with TFS stage 1
if you are getting a blower B31.

yea im keeping it NA, but doesnt the TFS stage 1 have a split duration? what does that mean exactly lol

Most Cams have a split duration it just means the duration on intake and exhaust is different which means the intake or exhaust valves will be open/closed for that duration.

to much duration can kill HP. Youll want something similar to if not the TFS 1. Im running the same cam in my motor which is a stock rebuilt bottom end and heavily ported GT40 (cobra model) heads and a ported HO intake and it matches perfect.

if you're going NA look into the anderson ford n41 as well. they sound nasty and are supposed to make great power.

Sinse you dont have a real good set of flowing heads on the car the stock cam is actually ok. If your just looking for a little more power something along the lines of a TFS stage 1 is probally good. A real big cam will just kill power instead of make it without the proper heads/intake/exhaust/stall, etc.

They are much better the stock heads, just not the best on the market. I run the TFS 1 with my AFR 185 and holley systemax on stock short block. I love everything about the cam. It sounds great, pulls hard. Its a strong mid-upper range cam so you may want to think about some gears also.

i have 3:55's, pretty happy with them... yea i know they arent the best on the market, but i got a killer deal on the heads, rr, and arp head bolts...

Yea there a nice little 20HP jump over stock. But they are tame compared to what you can get on the aftermarket.

for a budget build theyre a good head for cost management. what did you pay for them? new one head is 525 assembled. rated for max lift of 600 right out of the box. they claim 65 hp out of the box how do you get 20hp? thats a 45 hp difference.

a lot of companies "claim" a given HP gain, what people see is usually a different story. I always thought for the flow numbers the GT40x heads were a little pricey, if you're gonna buy an aluminum head why not get something better? if you want to buy something cheap get some iron GT40s.

I paid 800 for the heads, frpp 1.6 roller rocker, brand new stop head bolts... Not too bad considering the roller rockers are 399.00 brand new... I think these heads should be fine for my 306 build... I just want a nice street car that i can pass down to my son when he's old enough

i like the example. and now we are clear on crank and whp. its probably hp at the crank that frpp is claiming.


for a mild build for your 306 i think they will be fine. and thats a good price for a set of heads bolts and some rr
