I keep hearing about guys debating on dropping in an LS1 V8 in their SN95's. They say the LS1 is cheap, small, and light weight. Call me crazy but isn't a 351 Ford Motor cheaper and just a light? And aren't the engines the same size? I would think dropping an LS1 in, would be a pain compared to an actual Ford motor.

And is it 351 > LS1 or LS1 > 351

I'll start it then. LS-x motor...An ALL ALUMINUM MOTOR (BLOCK AND HEADS) that comes with heads that flow better STOCK than a shit load of aftermarket fords and its factory reliable...put a JUST A cam in it and make 400+horse to the wheels on motor with still 20mpg. SHOW ME AN N/A 5.0 or 351 that does that and is comparable in price. I challenge anyone.

The killer chassis of the mustang fox-based platform + LS-x = a well balanced fast reliable combo.

I'm unknowing of this......... shit... you speak of. Simple poll thats all. Just tossing a 351 sounds so much easier and cheaper then an LS1.

This is great and all, but did you know the LS1 is capable of skirt slapping? or piston slapping when cold? It's something that occurs after about 80,000 miles or so on the motor. Similier slapping to that of a 03/04 Cobra when Cold.

I would go Ls1. As said about good from the factory, cam puts you in the 400+range witha good tune, then add the bottle, lid, intake and your 525+. Not a fan of camaro/firebirds, but for the money, its alot cheaper to get horsepower out of them. I have alot of friends who switched to GM cars and most have mostly stock ls1s, or cammed ls1s now and they rape me. hell a buddy of mine with a cam and fogger (big shot), ford 9 inch and 28' et streets pulled the damn wheels about 4-5 inches off the ground with me in it on the street.

Im sorry but i gotta say it never put anything chevy in a ford EVER!!! IDK if its better in some ways I will look at you and laugh and have someone secretly burn it up... Its like going to the special olymipics and feeling like you are king shit.. These are my personal feeling and please dont take them in a derogatoring way.. im not racist or against the special olymipics.. They are used for the sole purpose to showing my anger of putting a foreign engine in a mustang

Do you run your car HARD when its ice cold? I don't know how to say it to point that it isn't THAT big of a deal. Goes away when it heats up, no big deal. I've seen more than a couple of motor much stouter than my 331 or a factory LS-x that will make a lil piston slap noise but once they're up to 180, they'll still crack off a 6.30 1/8th mile....on two years now without a rebuild. Any motor is capable of piston slap if the tolerances aren't there. Then again, i wouldn't swap ANY motor with 80k on it into my project car....and it wouldn't be in the car long enough to see 80k before it got a rebuild or refresh of some sort so that point to me...is a moot one.

"just tossing in" a 351 IS cheaper sure but eventually, the benefit of an LSx is gonna show. The hardest part of an LS-x swap is the ECU and engine management...but even that is easy now days with all the companies making harnesses for hot rod swaps.

I'm not trying to sell it hear...just educate is all.

Yeah they are better motors stock and easy to build and make power for cheap.
But if I wanted a LS-x I woulda bought a maro or a vette.
I bought a mustang because I wanted a FORD and a FORD motor.
Call me crazy but I do pride that factor.
I'd rather drive my mustang and build it and pay the money then degrade the car by putting a Chevy motor in them. Now I don't hate chevys. I like maros and vettes. I don't like a lot of Chevy drivers but that's a different story.
I'd never put a chevy motor/product into my Ford.
That's just me.

see...I don't give a shit what name is on the motor....as long as it goes.

It's not because it's named LS-x
It's because it ISN'T a Ford motor.
It's a CHEVY motor in a Ford car.
Kinda like that Skyline motor in the old classic mustang on that one movie.
I wouldn't ever do that.
Keep the LS-x in the Chevy cars.
Pride your Ford.
That's just how I see it.

RB26DET FTMFW.

That Skyline motor in that one movie would run your car down like it was one of those little antelopes on National Geographic.

I don't know how the big three did it, but somehow they made motor swaps taboo. I know my grandpa didn't care a bit when he dropped a 393 Hemi into his Ford Anglia. The people he raced cared, they lost.

First off, I love skylines and yes I know those motors are badass... thanks.
What I was getting at was I don't think it's a good idea. It's not a Ford motor so don't put it in. I mean yeah there are some expections like a built 350 in a mazda miata would be badass. But as far as mustangs go, I wouldn't ever put a chevy motor in it. It's just not right.

J.R. you are gay haha but still my best friend
even if you do post annoying links to meatspin ahahahahahahah
