Mach 460, Is this possible?

Hi everyone.

The previous owner of my Mustang removed the Mach 460 system but has given me the original head unit and CD player. I've read a lot of comments about the system not being very good, but the car is very original and I'd prefer not to have the blanked slot in the dash.

The question I have is, is it possible to hook the original head unit/CD player to four aftermarket speakers, without using the original amps?

Thanks for any help

Chris

Well there should be a way but you would need to get some aftermarket amps to power new speakers. Then it would only be a matter of separating out the input/output on the hrns's going to the stock amps to go to your new amps

Sounds promising! Is it the amps that make the original system complex? I think i read somewhere that if you try to replace the original speakers you may end up with only bass/no bass at all.

Thanks for your reply :)

The speakers on the subs run a funny impedence/resistance to make it hard to swap the speakers out but if you know what you are doing there are a few ways to get what you want from the mach.

Right! I'll start looking into how to go about it then.

Would 1 amp be sufficient to power the 4 Alpine speakers I have or am I likely to need 3 like the original system? Sorry for my ignorance, I don't know much about electrical/stereo systems, complete noob.

Engines/mechanical stuff is my thing ha!

You could get a 4 channel that will power all the speakers, or 2 - two channel amps like the stock amps are. 6 of one, half dozen of the other.

Thanks for the link but I'm in the UK and it'd probably cost a fortune to get the whole lot sent over. If I do manage to get the original head unit working with the replacement speakers I'll be happy, I don't mind not having the entire Mach system.

Thanks again everyone :)
