For almost 2 years now my car has acted very weird in the Higher RPMs (above 4,500)..... When i would start getting past 4K, My lights go dim and I get a HUGE voltage drop. My battery Light would come on but then once I shift and the RPMs drop, the voltage comes back.

Nobody could solve my problem, but I had a Large feeling it was my 140,000 Mile belt tensioner causing the issue.

Well this friday I started my car and got a squeak from a pulley. Belt dressing made it WAY worse and it was screaming. The noise was coming from the bearings on the tensioner failing.

So I replaced the tensioner with a OEM Ford unit.... Now My Voltage drop at High RPM's is Fixed!!! My car also pulls harder in the High RPMs because my ignition isnt getting overwhelmed with low voltage.

Remember to Check your belt tensioner Over time to make sure it operation properly.... It could be causing you issues!!! :book1:

Yeah, It was on my list of Things to fix but there was more important things that came first. It wasnt really causing drivability issues and the problem was intermittent so i was just gonna wait till something broke then fix it.

Mine was squealing, and you could see where the belt had rubbed the engine block some. I replaced that and the idle pulley, all better!

and belt dressing is a big no no!! that stuff is gross and messy.

Bad tensioners are common on early 4.6's since they were aluminum and bent. The newer versions are steel and much stronger.

i replaced mine my first week of owning the car.

some people also remove the "stopper" on the tensioner to give it a longer "tavel path" ...

I got an autozone one for $69.00... it lasted roughly a year.
I got a NAPA one for $99.00... its a much higher quality unit.
