mods to make a stock car quicker

i have a completely stock auto '94 stang. i've raced a few built honda 5 spds and drag raced a built escort 5 spd last night. from an idle without me launching my car, he hung with me til 3rd, i pulled, 4th i took his ass. it takes a few seconds to shift gears. that's where he would pull on me. i'm doing exhaust here in a few weeks, what other mods can i get to boost the quickness in the 1/4?

Shift kit or J-Mod, 4.10's, for a start

Like fets said the shift kit ( Jmod ) thats just another version of a shift kit. B&M and trans-go make shift kits as well.......take your pick from them. Anyway you need gears, 4:10's would be great plus if you could swing the cash for a stall like a 2400-2800 that would cut almost a half second off your quarter. The shift kit + gears + stall would = a :ass3: hauler compared to what you have now.

Haha that would be somethign to see for sure.

Get full exhaust too, sounds WAY better and frees up a decent amount of hp.

4th gear = overdrive in an aode.

I agree with what everyone else said, shift kit, gears & converter. I only have the shift kit for my car, but it made a very noticable difference.

the escort had everything imaginable done to it except turbo. 42lb injectors from a harley davidson truck, among other things. i was lookin to get exhaust, gears, cai, and a chip. is that good? how much mileage will the 4:10s eat up?
