ive ordered new polyurethane motor mounts from local mustang shop, and was going to have them install them, but theyre a bit steep on price for labor. was wondering how hard it is to install myself ( well with a few buddies anyhow ) was told its not too hard just wanted to see if any of you guys have done it and if so how to go about doing it, and if you havent what would ya recomend? thanks guys

they are somewhat of a PITA to install, but they are do-able with some buddies. i cant remember exactly how we did them (i had access to a lift and the transmission was out, which turned out to be a bad thing), but i would suggest you do it this way:

take off the starter so you have some extra room, along with un-hooking the clutch cable. take off that stock g-load brace thing that connects both sides of the crossmember and the midpipe. loosen the motor mounts and using a block of wood and a jack, lift the front of the engine up. put the piece of wood on the oil pan flange where the bolts are (the bolts that bolt it to the timing cover). this should give you enough room to squeeze the mounts out and put the new ones ones in. use WD-40 or PB blaster to loosen the mounts 1st tho, and use loctite on them to make sure they dont come loose.

hahaha, i wouldnt do that, id get them replaced. mine was starting to clunk real bad so i had to get them and replace them. broken motor mounts can (and did to me) cause shifting problems and cause other parts to break, mainly transmission related parts.

well what i always have done i not spend on rims and just wait till some one want a rim swap or know someonw who wants one and trade the rims , this has always worked for me .
That how i got my 2003 cobra rims, i new someone who had 95 cobra and had 2003 rims and wanted the stock rims, so i new someone who had them( these rims are hard to find in Puerto Rico) so i asked him if he wanted my gt rims he said he liked them so i called the guy up and told him it was a 3 way rim swap and we went to local tire shop and did the swap :thumb:

I installed the new motor mounts and they were not too hard. I actually just jacked the motor up just enough to clear the motor mounts and they were off then installing them was easier then removing the old ones. I would rate the job probably a 5 out of 10. Just take ur time give yourself about 2-3hrs and take the nut off the k-member first then go for the engine bolts. Make sure you have a good swivel on hand because youll need it. Good Luck.

well we failed.....me and about 4 or 5 of my mustang buddies attempted to install the new motor mounts.......we were doing fine, had the bolts out of the mounts, and couldnt get the last bolt out of the starter to move it to get to the last bolt in the motor mount......we went so far....we even had to remove my o/r h pipe just to make it easier....cant believe we couldnt get it...and to top it off my clutch crapped on me the other day...so she sits at my apt on jack stands for a good bit till i can afford to get a clutch and afford install and motor mount install......i hope the people at the mustang shop dont hate me when i go back and tell em i actually do need them to install them....lol.......no happy dances here.....

the top starter bolt? use a short socket, swivel, 6" and 12" extention, in that order. put everything together except for the 12" extention. fit them between the block and the k member (or between the mount and the block...cant remember), and once you get all that on, plug in the 12" extention. you should have the ratchet past the front accessories. easiest way for me to get to that bolt, usually takes me about 5-10 minutes to remove the starter now.

if you decide to do the clutch at your place.....its actually not as hard as i used to think, doing it yourself in the driveway.

:help2:well we got the 2 bottom bolts off the starter....but the top one was in such a hard place to get it out we couldnt...we could feel the bolt from the mount but we tried just moving around the starter to get it but it was in the way...i may try what you said with the extensions in that order ( you did mean that order for the starter correct ) and give it a try, cuz i mean if we could get that out of the way itd be a piece of cake to get the mounts out and the new ones in...

and as for the clutch...i dunno if i wanna mess with that.....

The extension's mentioned above are the best way to get that bolt out. I left mine out.

A clutch shouldn't take more than a weekend, even with little experience, or about 200 in labor, your call. Personally every single time I've taken a vehicle to a shop they screwed it up and I paid them to do it. I'd rather screw my own stuff up for free than pay some clown any day of the week.

yeah, the order is starter bolt - short socket - swivel - 6" extension - 12" extension - ratchet.

i always put that bolt back in because i figured out how to do it so quick, its no worry anymore for me, it comes out easy

and im with jrgunn5150 on the labor part. everytime i take it anywhere, they never do what they should or they break something or just screw me over, so i do my own work. only thing ive taken it to a shop to do that ive been pleased with the outcome is the gear swap, and i took it to a local shop where the people are really cool and know what they are doing.

I even got my gear swapped screwed up, lol. I was getting no whine, no nothing, but at around 90 I was getting horrible vibrations. I thought it was the cat-back I put of hitting something. Broke 3 T-45 cases from the vib's before I figured it out.

I unbolted my AC compressor to get to the top starter bolt. Got the bolt out... In reverse I bolted the AC compressor back up and left the top bolt off the starter.
