Alright, after readin up and doin alot of thinkin. i beleive that when i go to the junk yard for a block im gonna come home with a 5.4. the lightning aftermarket is absolutley carzy huge, and i wont have to make huge changes to the engine bay. some of you all know ive been contemplating on what to do for a engine build project and i think this is my way to go. 5.4's can be had on the cheap and can make great numbers in stock form. ill start a build up thread when i get the block in the near future.

this build will take a long time cuase im not pullin the engine out of bullet till i have to. and im only at like 96,000 miles right now.

5.4s can be done on the cheap though. im on a budget and i want more than the 4.6. im still goin to mod my modular with PI cams and heads, but this 5.4 is a long term engine buid up. lol.

Go for it man! Will be a heck of a buildup. Mywillinc is in Birmingham and he has done the 5.4 swap. He will be a great semi-local source of info for you. Keep an eye on Craiglist for your shortblock or just the block. Car-part.com you might be able to find a local junkyard or someplace within a couple of hours drive to pick up a cheap shortblock.

head are the same between 5.4 and 4.6. Go to the 4.6 forums and you will see a very long thread regarding 5.4 swaps. In that thread is a link to mustangboards.com I think, it is actually in there several times. There you will find the answer to EVERY question you can have about the 5.4 swap. I think it is well over 100 pages now. The 5.4 swap is not hard and is fairly straight forward. If you are going to be doing port and polish heads on your car, they will work fine on the 5.4.

R3dn3ck is our resident 5.4 swap guru. He is the one that started the 5.4 swap thread on Mustangboards and has done a lot working with manufacturers to get 5.4 2V parts to the market by showing that there is a market out there willing to pay for the parts.

Depends on the model year of the 5.4. Think it was 2000 and later on the 5.4's that they used PI heads.

I thought you meant you were just going to go buy one and drop it in, not a buildup lol

sounds like a great project, gl with it, I'm hoping probably in the next 2 years get my 351w stroked and poked and dropped into something, i don't have a car to drop it in and i don't want to mess with it in the stang, so i'm kind of looking for an old stang, like dals, but they're so hard to find.
