Alright my brother has a 96 GT 5-speed, When driving it home the other day the car acted like it lost all power, while driving down the road the car would almost die out. It would choke down and back fire, but if he held the gas pedal to the floor it would come back to life but spit and sputtered.
the car will sit and idle fine and rev up with no problem but after it heats up and you put the car in reverse and try to back up it would choke it's self out and back fire. Could it be bad ignition. The car is mostly stock, just has bbk cold air intake, off road h pipe, and magnaflow mufflers. We changed the fuel fillter and put in some injector cleaner still no help.
could it be a sensor or vacuum leak? Thanks for any help

check engine light throws a code for o2 sensors but its always has done that because of the off road exhaust

Did you actually re-look at the codes. I have an o/r with no eliminators and i check my codes about 1 a month to make sure there is nothing else but the 02code. There is a lot of things you can check. MAF, IAC, PCV valve, hoses, sparkplugs and cops, if you can get your hands on a Fuel pressure guage you can check the fuel pressure. If you need to know about checking any of that stuff out just ask i'll give ya some instructions. It is hard to pinpoint what it might be though.

Played around with my brothers 96 GT yesterday, looking for broken lines or anything out in the open that would not let the car run. I noticed when i move the fuel vapor valve around the car would not idle very good. Could this small valve be the whole problem? Can it stop the car from running, Cause once the car heats up to temp. you try to move foward and the car will die out, can't even pull its self after warm up. The lines going into the fuel vapor valve are dry and cracked. Would changing this valve fix his car?

Sounds like a dying fuel pump, get a gauge on it and see what it does.

There is but you need a descent scanner to log with.

MAF problems are rare even though that's the first thing people suggest for every problem, they do go bad, but they don't fix every problem like some people think I guess.
