"spending money i don't have on parts i don't need to impress people i don't know"-

so, imagine you're 14 and see a cobra driving down the road that sounds fantastic and changes colors as it drives by. . . you're hooked. roll the clock forward just a bit and you 20, find a factory numbers matching mystic that needs to be restored. sounds like a great idea huh? well i certainly hope someone else gives it a shot and experiences the horror. however, today i have a very large smile on my face. i'll explain: 7 years later after seeing that cobra mystic for the first time i'm finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. body work has been replaced and mended and paint has started being sprayed. after 6 months of body work and between 5-6k of labor and materials(just in body work and paint) i went and saw something to show for it. to date the engine bay, bumper, side skirts, mirrors, and door panels window switch plates have been painted and look absolutely fantastic. the rest of the car would have been painted today but the found one more penny sized ding that was adressed, the rest of the car will be painted the beganing of next week. the frame was also pulled 2 inches and everything lines up like brand new now.

a short list of "mods"/repairs done to date:
long tube headers
offroad H pipe
flowmasters
"king cobra" clutch
bbk adjustable quadrant kit
bbk adjustable clutch cable
new head gaskets, flywheel turned
in line oil filter
new front bumper
oem cobra hood (made by ford)
new windshield
new corner markers with clear reflector
new oem fog lamps (ford)
new radiator air deflector
new license plate tray
new door locks
new exterior A pillar
painted to match mirrors and switch plates
cobra r replica wheels

it should be out of the paint shop very soon. body of the car will be painted early next week, then the paint needs to cure/harden for 4-5 days before it is wet sanded. great attention to detail has been taken in this paint job, the car was in rough shape and that's putting it nicely. as much of the engine bay was painted as possible without pulling the motor. strut tower brace, inner fender well and underside of hood were all painted and clear coated. there is not a single dent or ding on the entire body of the car now. also found a very good deal on a set of Corbeau seats that will hopefully be picked up this weekend. i will post the photos of the car painted as soon as possible, i have some of the car unpainted as well to show the amount of work that was really put into it. sorry for the long post. feel free to comment! thanks everyone.

honestly it doesn't seem to be nearly as much of an ordeal as it used to be to get the paint from basf, yes they do verify vin still though. i'm not sure on the exact dollar number of the paint right now, we're not 100% sure how much it's going to take untill it's done so i'll put up some more particular figures up if anyone wants to know for whatever reason. also if someone wants to paint their cobra or gt mystic let me know and i can pm you a vin and paint code.

wow that mystic color paint must have been expensive

thinking the same thing. i'm sure it's a few hundred bucks a qt. Was it Mystic or Mystichrome that has the green dye from U.S bills?

i've heard it was the 96 mystic paint and that's why basf kept such a tight lid on it but i can't comment on the validity of that. also, i went by the body shop today and the car was in the booth being painted. pictures soon to come
