So my pretty much just got repainted. I want to limit driving it as much as possible so now I am looking for a beater. I just can't decide. I would love something with 4wd so when the weather is bad(snow) I wouldn't be a shut-in. However I don't want to jump into a truck cause I want something with decent MPGs.(I deliver food).

Any ideas/recommendations are welcome.

Maybe more. If it's worth the money I'll just save up alittle more.

No need for 4wd unless it's hella deep snow.
I picked up a 95 Escort last September for $200. Only had 91k on it. I have not had a single problem with the car since i bought it. Runs like a top, and I've gotten as high as 42mpg.

Take a look in your craiglist, they are everywhere for cheap money.

I bought my 92' explorer sport 2 years ago for $1800cnd, It's running strong and is a great winter beater. Sadly, gas mileage is crappy with the 4.0L, almost worse than my stang is lol.

I owned a 94 Exploder for almost 2 years. It was great in the snow, but it was horrible on gas and it always needed something.

Ask a general mechanic was his cash crop is, and I bet he tells you it's the explorers. They go through ball joints like woah too.

For better gas and overall reliability, I'd go with a fwd vehicle.

I second the Ford Escort or maybe a Pinto. My last cheap beater was a 1972 Ford Maverick.

One day i will own a Ford maverick grabber.
Always wanted one since before I ever bought my first car(Mustang)

Pick up a cheap 1.8 eagle talon... Super cheap., good in the snow.. Uses no gas and they take a beating..

I drove one for 3 years as a beater..
