Need Help Rear Suspension!! Problem solved!!

I just got my 2000 GT, and I have noticed that over really rough roads or bumps, that there is a clunking sound. It isn't my rear end or my tranny mount. I also don't think that it is the lower control arms as they have been upgraded to global west by the previous owner. Could it be the upper control arms? They looked to be stock when I was under the car. Also the car will clunk when I let the clutch out too fast, or when I am in gear and give it gas and let off? Any help? Is there a common part that goes bad on the rears?

Don't call me an expert, but the added NVH you are hearing could be due to the spherical end links on your lower control arms on the chassis side. On many brands the spherical is on the axle side, but Global West I believe is on the chassis side.

Were the uppers changed out as well?

look at the u-joints for the clunking noise

No, the uppers are stock. The more that I drive the car the more that I think it is the uppers. Are they something that wears out quicker? The car only has 69k on it.

I forgot to mention, I did check the u-joints and there was no play at all.

Took this off of the Global West Web site.

"Consequences: On uni-body cars only, road noise maybe heard a little more. We do not recommend using a Panhard rod with this application. Bind will occur if used."

Could this be an issue if installed? I am not sure if the panhard bar is on my car or not.

I have the same type of sound on my 04 roush stage 2. i have looked every where for that damn noise and can not figure it out. If you figure it out let me know!

Ok, good. I am really leaning towards upper control arms. I could be wrong though, that seems to be the only logical thing.

upper control arms are a global debate. i personally recommend updating your bushing with new oem rubber bushings and HD ford racing upper control arms. same as stock however tougher rubber bushings. they are also not urethane which will not bind. you would know if you have a pan hard bar. yes they do add noise and its not looking stock. it really looks out of place in comparison.

Well I feel like an idiot, but I guess I just never thought it would be this simple? I was changing my oil and I thought that I would just take another peak at the rear just to see if I could see anything out of the usual. Ended up just being that 3 of the 4 the upper control arm bolts were loose. I tightened them up and no more clunk? I was happy, and mad that the dealership never caught that!! But problem solved.

Glad you figured it out. I went through the same problem 2 summers ago after smacking a curb sideways with the rear wheel. Aside from the clunking you described, when I'd touch the gas you could feel the ass of the car rise up towards the right side (if your sitting in the car-direction wise), and pop over to one side, and as soon as you'd left off the throttle, it'd snap back left back down to where it was supposed to be.

Got to looking, and where I smacked the curb with the passenger side rear wheel, it exploded the bushing connecting my brand new control arms to the body. The pass. side was the one that was fubar'd, drivers side was perfect. Made for a weird feeling til I changed em out
