i just replace my pinion seal yesterday, and i took it down the road when we got done and the it would started making a whining noise when i let off the gas. So i dont know what could be the problem. im thinking that the pinion bolt is a little to tight. I had a friend helping me (he has a lift in his garage) but he told the pinion bolt off and he check the preload of it to, i think he said it was 10 in/lbs. but i was wondering if that could be the problem that the pinion bolt is to tight? anyone else had this problem

did you put friction modifier in the diff

thats was a i was gonna ask. I've also heard if you overtighten the pinion bolt it could cause clearance issues.

i use redline 75W90 and it say that it has the friction modifler in it. but its more like a vibration then a grinding noise.

A whining noise makes me think that the mesh of the gears could be wrong. Perhaps the new seal is not as thick as the old seal and the depth of the pinion is more into the ring gear now. Just a thought. There could be 5 different things that can cause the whine.
