So the time has come to put in 4.10s. I am set on that. My question is Should I save up some money and get a new diff and axles? If you need a little background info, I have pnp PI's with lts and plenum with 75mm tb. I plan on vt stage 2's and maybe p51 if i have the money. then eventually I plan on stepping up to a turbo 4v project. but that is a few years off. More and more I am leaning towards doing it all at once. My other question is what kind of diff and axles do you guys reccomend for a high power application. I plan on a mix of street driving, road racing and drag racing. I like the looks of the 31 spline detroit true trac but that is about it. I figured I would throw this idea out to people who have been there and and know from experience whats good and what isn't.

Thanks

to stay on the cheap side, i would say you get the moser 31 spline axles and either the 03/04 cobra diff or the diff off an 05+ mustang (which im told is the same thing). from what im told, the difference between the cobra unit and the regular GT diffs is that the cobra (and 05+ gt) is for 31 spline axles and has carbon fiber clutch packs. its perfect for daily driving and will take the abuse of both drag racing and road racing. if you do a lot of road racing, i say look into getting a diff oil cooler too. as far as high horsepower applications, im assuming you arent putting out more than a mildly modified termie, right?

the cobra diff is what i have on my car.

yea i would stay wit a Ford Trak-lok diff. Just get one for 31 spline axles.

I have superior axles, but there are cheaper axles out there, such as FRPP

Based on your plans i'd suggest upgrading to a 31 spline rear end. I went with the Cobra diff and Moser axles and am happy with them so far. I haven't done much racing with it though but it hasn't given me any problems. I think the Cobra diff is a good unit for the money.

Okay, thanks for all the input. I think i am going to have to do some research on the cobra diff because it sounds pretty good.

If you are already going to tear apart the rear, no reason to half-ass it and regret it later. Just get the Moser 31 Splines w/C Clip elemintators, then a 31 spline Trac-lock and a FMS 4.10 ( well really any company would work) thats just my $.02

As for the Cobra diff,, if you can find a used one, hop all over it!!!
